Steve Sarkisian Compares Ryan Wingo to Xavier Worthy to Spark Texas Hype

The 2025 season was a breakout year for Ryan Wingo, as he delivered a strong performance on offense. Coach Steve Sarkisian is counting on Wingo for 2026, with the Longhorns aiming for a College Football Playoff appearance.

Wingo has consistently lived up to the expectations set for him out of high school. As Texas looks toward the season, Sarkisian is pushing for more attention and hype for his wide receiver.

Coach Steve Sarkisian Demands More Hype for Ryan Wingo

“I feel like we’ve forgotten about Ryan Wingo,” Sarkisian said. “This guy was a second-team All-SEC receiver, had over 850 yards last year, and we all loved Xavier (Worthy) when he was here. In Xavier’s sophomore year, I think he had like 700 yards, and all of a sudden, it’s like we forgot about Ryan Wingo.

“He’s a really good player, and we’re fortunate to have him to go along with Cam (Coleman) and Emmett (Mosley) and all the guys over there. So that’s just one thing that’s shown up to me as Ryan has been coming back into the fold, it’s like, wow. You know, this guy’s really good, and he continues to get better from where he was his freshman year and where he is now.”

Wingo recorded 54 receptions, 834 yards, and seven touchdowns in 2025. He finished the year with a 79.7 rating in the PFSN College Football WR Impact Metric, placing him 47th nationally.

Wingo spent part of the offseason recovering from surgery to address a wrist injury. However, he participated in spring practice and is expected to be ready when the season kicks off in September.

The addition of Cam Coleman, a former Auburn receiver who transferred to Texas this offseason, has added excitement to the Longhorns’ receiving corps. Coleman has been turning heads in spring practice, making highlight-reel catches that have gone viral. With Wingo and Emmett Mosley V on the other side, Coleman’s presence has created opportunities for the group to shine.

Wingo sees the addition as a positive rather than a threat.

“(Coleman) is another great playmaker on the other side, so there’s going to be more one-on-one matchups,” Wingo told reporters last week. “It’s going to be a good season, and we’re going to be able to showcase our abilities.”

Coleman brings a track record to Texas, having recorded 56 catches for 708 yards and five touchdowns last season. The combination of Wingo, Mosley, and Coleman is expected to give the Longhorns a dangerous receiving corps heading into 2026.
