SEC Analyst Demands Georgia OC Mike Bobo’s Firing

Now that Ole Miss eliminated Georgia, an analyst discusses what he sees as a major flaw in the Bulldogs.

Following their College Football Playoff loss to Ole Miss, Georgia will likely conduct an internal review. With the offseason underway and the transfer portal open, questions remain about the program’s immediate future. One analyst believes the team could address some concerns with decisive action.

Georgia Needs to Fire OC Mike Bobo, CFB Analyst Asserts

Ole Miss ended Georgia’s College Football Playoff run with a 39-34 victory. A 12-2 record is strong, though the team fell short of its ultimate goal. In a season where rival Alabama lost to Indiana and defending champion Ohio State also fell, Georgia may have viewed the path to a championship as unusually open.

Ole Miss, even without head coach Lane Kiffin, provided significant resistance. Following the loss, questions turned toward accountability, and one analyst offered a pointed opinion. Cousin Shane, co-host of “That SEC Podcast,” shared his perspective.

“Indiana and A&M take some of these athletes that are just freak athletes, and they make sure they get the football. Ole Miss does, and we cannot do that with Georgia. It’s this whole team mentality, which is great, but I’m telling you, this is an individual sport at times. You need somebody to step up,” Shane said.

“Mike Bobo is not putting them in the spot.  I think it’s time for change. If you’re not moving forward, you’re stagnant. You’re losing it. And I feel like that’s what Georgia is right now.

To consider Shane’s points, several factors require examination. Georgia scored 34 points, while Ole Miss scored 39, highlighting defensive shortcomings. Shane also suggested Georgia struggled offensively throughout the season, though metrics and statistics indicate otherwise. According to PFSN’s CFB Offense Impact Metric, the Bulldogs ranked No. 18 nationally.

Averaging 32.1 points and 402.4 yards per game typically reflects an offense capable of winning at a high level. At times, Georgia’s offense compensated for defensive lapses, such as in the Tennessee game. Volunteers quarterback Joey Aguilar threw for 371 yards and four touchdowns while averaging 10 yards per attempt.

In other words, he dropped back, looked away from the checkdown, and attacked vertically without hesitation. Had Georgia not won that game, it may not have reached the SEC title game. Any hope of earning a CFP berth would likely have vanished as well.

Georgia still won 12 games. However, in Athens, success is ultimately measured by championships. Head coach Kirby Smart will evaluate the roster and the broader program to determine what changes, if any, are necessary. If Smart remains committed to Bobo, the emphasis will shift toward refining strategy and execution in pursuit of future titles.
