San Jose State vs. Texas Prediction

Entering Week 1 of the college football season, anticipation was sky-high for Arch Manning and the Longhorns, who were ranked No. 1 in the AP poll and set to play No. 3 Ohio State. This marquee matchup, seen as a scheduling triumph, was one of the most eagerly awaited season openers in recent memory.

However, Texas stumbled in Columbus, falling 14-7 to the Buckeyes. Ohio State’s defense is likely to be the toughest the Longhorns face all year, but Texas will need to solve several strong defenses on the path to an SEC title and a national championship run.

Week 2 provides an opportunity for Texas to rebound. National discourse has focused on Steve Sarkisian’s cautious approach in Week 1 and a disappointing debut from Manning, who completed 17 of 30 passes for 170 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Meanwhile, the Spartans were considered strong candidates to win the Mountain West, but a 16-14 defeat to Central Michigan in a messy game halted any momentum they carried into 2025.

San Jose State’s season will not be defined by its Week 2 game against Texas, but it offers the opportunity to make a statement. Quarterback Walker Eget threw for 308 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions in Week 1, but the Spartans were limited on the ground.

Wide receiver Danny Scudero appears to be Spartans HC Ken Niumatalolo’s primary offensive weapon. Additionally, linebacker Jordan Pollard must perform well if the defense hopes to challenge No. 7 Texas’s talented offensive line.

Prediction: Texas 44, San Jose State 7
