Patrick Mahomes Planning To Bring Chiefs HC Andy Reid to Texas Tech-BYU Game Following Big 12 Smack Talk

Chiefs star QB Patrick Mahomes is already starting beef with his head coach, Andy Reid, as he plans to bring him to Texas Tech's game this fall against BYU.

Before Patrick Mahomes became the face of the NFL and a superstar quarterback, he set the college football world on fire at Texas Tech. In his three-year career, he was fantastic for the Red Raiders, throwing for 11,252 yards and 93 touchdowns, becoming the program’s third-leading passer.

Mahomes still frequently attends Texas Tech games, and recently, he told the Red Raiders that he’s bringing a special guest with him this year.

Patrick Mahomes Is Reportedly Bringing Andy Reid to Texas Tech-BYU Game

Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire recently appeared in an interview on the program’s social media accounts. In it, he discussed the Red Raiders’ upcoming season. McGuire was asked about Patrick Mahomes’s impact on the program, and his response to that question talked about the last time he saw the former Red Raider quarterback.

McGuire explained that he was with Mahomes when the NFL schedule was released, and the Red Raiders game against BYU aligned with the Kansas City Chiefs’ bye week. Mahomes came right over to McGuire to tell him that he would be at the game and would be bringing along his head coach, Andy Reid, a BYU alum.

“He comes in the room, makes a beeline at me, and he said ‘I’m going to be at the BYU game, I’ve already started talking smack to Andy Reid’ who’s a BYU alum and then he said ‘I’m going to try and bring him with me, you better win,'” McGuire said.

Mahomes, who left Texas Tech after three seasons, has returned to Lubbock frequently to support his former program. He and his wife, Brittany, donated $5 million to aid the university’s project to build the Dustin R. Womble Football Center.

The superstar quarterback also partnered with Adidas to create “Team Mahomes,” an NIL initiative that allows several Texas Tech athletes to sign deals with Adidas.

It makes sense that during his bye week with the Chiefs, he wants to get out to a Texas Tech game. Bringing Andy Reid will make it an even more special week for the Red Raiders when they take on BYU.

The November 8 matchup will mark the first time in recent years that both Mahomes and Reid attend a college game together, creating a unique storyline that connects two different eras of football excellence.

Andy Reid graduated from BYU back in 1980 and began his coaching career with the Cougars as a graduate assistant in 1982. It would be awesome to see Reid and Mahomes at Texas Tech when the two programs face off on November 8.
