Trinidad Chambliss and the Ole Miss Rebels are currently preparing to take on the Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoffs. However, the buildup to the game has been dominated by talks surrounding the Rebels’ former head coach, Lane Kiffin.
Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss Clears Air on Lane Kiffin Appearance.
After leading Ole Miss to its first playoff berth in the twelve-year history of the College football playoffs, Kiffin inked a seven-year deal worth $91 million at LSU. However, according to reports, he may yet make an appearance at his former team’s playoff matchup.
During the buildup to their game with the Bulldogs, the Ole Miss quarterback addressed rumors surrounding him and a potential move to LSU. Currently, Chambliss is attempting to secure a waiver that would allow him to play another season of NCAA football.
“Trinidad Chambliss, here at Sugar Bowl media day, says he’s not communicated with Lane Kiffin and adds, ‘I don’t think that’s even allowed right now,” reported Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger during a press conference ahead of Ole Miss’s game with Georgia.
Additionally, according to a recent report from Dellenger, Kiffin could potentially make an appearance at the Sugar Bowl, alongside Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry. Landry played a significant role in the blockbuster deal that saw Kiffin swap Oxford for Louisiana.
Chambliss, who is currently a senior at Ole Miss, took a redshirt in 2021 when he arrived at Ferris State, and finished his redshirt junior season with the Bulldogs in 2024. However, the Ole Miss quarterback is trying to claim another year of eligibility.
Recently, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that the Ole Miss quarterback was trying to request a medical redshirt for the 2022 season at Ferris State. That year, he dealt with persistent respiratory issues. There has been no decision made at this time.

“It’s not uncommon for players to receive a sixth year for a medical redshirt when they’ve already taken a season as a traditional redshirt. In this case, it’s trickier because Trinidad Chambliss switched schools and levels.” Thamel reported.
After throwing for 282 yards and a touchdown during Ole Miss’s playoff game against Tulane, according to PFSN’s QB impact rankings, Trinidad Chambliss ranks 5th nationally in quarterback play. With an impact score of 90.3, the Rebels’ quarterback threw for over 3000 yards and eighteen touchdowns in 2025.
The Transfer Portal opens on January 2nd, the day after Ole Miss’s game against Georgia. This means that the Rebels’ quarterback could hit the portal should they lose to the Bulldogs; however, the quarterback is most likely focused entirely on tomorrow’s game.
