Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin’s No. 7 Rebels entered the game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Egg Bowl as heavy favorites. With Kiffin’s future hanging over the Rebels, Ole Miss took a 14-7 lead in the second quarter, but not before a huge brawl broke out between the rivals.
After the Bulldogs recovered a loose ball, Ole Miss and Mississippi State players started shoving each other, leading to a massive brawl at the Davis Wade Stadium.

College football fans on X had mixed reactions after the brawl broke out between players from the Rebels and Bulldogs.

Amazingly, no player was ejected by the officials after the dust had settled on the massive brawl in the Egg Bowl.
Lane Kiffin Calls Out Mississippi State A.D.
During a fiery halftime interview on the field, Kiffin revealed his shock at the Bulldogs players’ behavior during the brawl and even called out Mississippi State athletic director Zac Selmon for joining in the fight.
“We’re just trying to play clean football,” Kiffin said. “For a whole sideline to try to fight and leave their whole sideline, including their athletic director, I’ve never seen anything like it. I’m just reminded, we’re just trying to play football here, not start a fight, our university can’t get credit for fighting people.”
Kiffin also challenged his players to perform better in the second half and put behind them the brawl by Mississippi State players.
“We’re good. Our guys stayed on the sidelines like we’re supposed to. So, we gotta execute better in the red zone on offense, we did that at the end. On defense, we calmed down after the start. We need to sustain some drives to put this game away.”
Kiffin’s words seemed to work wonders as the Rebels pulled away from the Bulldogs and led the contest 38-19 late in the fourth quarter. Despite the uncertainty about Kiffin’s future, PFSN’s College Football Playoff Meter estimates their chances of making the College Football Playoff at 100%.
