Nebraska coach Matt Rhule acted quickly to mitigate the loss of former Cornhuskers quarterback Dylan Raiola to the Oregon Ducks via the transfer portal. Rhule brought in former UNLV Rebels standout Anthony Colandrea and former Virginia Cavaliers prospect Daniel Kaelin to bolster the Cornhuskers’ quarterback room next season.
Sophomore quarterback T.J Lateef, who finished last season as the Cornhuskers’ starter, will also come back next season, but Nebraska fans will be most excited by class of 2027 prospect Trae Taylor, who will join the team next year.
QB Prospect Reveals Grand Plans for Matt Rhule’s Cornhuskers
In an interview with Rivals’ Josh Newberg on Monday, Taylor spoke passionately about wanting to revive Nebraska into a legitimate college football powerhouse like it was in the past.
“I think the biggest statement that people always say but isn’t put enough out there is like, ‘I wanna bring Nebraska back again,'” Taylor said. “Everybody says that, but they always have their different reasons. Obviously, to bring Nebraska back, you have to win. I think the biggest thing is the culture. It’s a blue-chip school. Everybody knows about it from the 90s.
“Let’s make it relevant in the 2000s, and I think coach Rhule has given me a great lead off for that race, and I just gotta run with it now.”

After a 3-0 start to the season last year with Raiola under center, Nebraska faded toward the end of the season, finishing with a 4-5 Big Ten and 7-6 overall record after the polarizing quarterback broke his fibula in November. It represented their second consecutive 7-6 record.
In three seasons at the helm, Rhule has led the Cornhuskers to an 11-16 Big Ten and 19-19 overall record, including their first winning seasons since 2016 and their first bowl win since 2015 when they defeated Boston College to win the Pinstripe Bowl in 2024.
Rhule has focused on aggressive recruitment to establish Nebraska as a force in the Big Ten. Taylor headlines a strong class of 2027 in Nebraska, ranked No. 4 in the Big Ten and No. 10 in the country. The talented quarterback has been noted for helping the Cornhuskers recruit the class of 2027 prospects.
In 11 games played, Taylor tallied 3,571 passing yards, resulting in 38 touchdowns and three interceptions, while adding 633 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns last year as he led Carmel Catholic to a Nebraska Class A State title. He transferred to Millard South for his last year in high school before finally joining the Cornhuskers.
