Fans Cry Foul As Missouri QB Beau Pribula Sustains Injury

With the Tigers looking to continue their run toward the College Football Playoff, the quarterback sustained a left ankle injury in the third quarter of their 17-10 loss to Vanderbilt. With 11:15 remaining in the third quarter and facing a fourth-and-goal from Vanderbilt’s 2-yard line, Pribula kept the ball. The Commodore defense pushed the Mizzou offensive line back, stopping momentum.

Vanderbilt graduate transfer Joshua Singh grabbed Pribula’s left ankle, maintaining a grip as his teammates moved the Mizzou signal-caller. Trainers ran onto the field immediately, placing Pribula in an air cast.

Later, he was seen using crutches and sporting a walking boot. Singh’s tackle drew attention on social media. Reports surfaced that Pribula suffered a dislocated ankle and could miss the remainder of the season. Fans demanded consequences, though Singh was not flagged on the play.

“Singh from Vandy should be suspended. What a dirty play,” one fan said.

Singh looked like he tried stopping Pribula’s forward progress. Many Missouri fans agreed with the criticism, believing their quarterback’s season ended due to an overzealous tackle attempt.

“It’s the continuation of the rolling and twisting after he was fully on the ground. That’s how it’s a dirty play,” another fan said.

During the play, Pribula’s body arched backward, and his ankle was at a sharp angle while Singh’s foot remained mostly stationary. Upper-body torque can contribute to lower-body injuries.

Another fan commented that Vanderbilt’s feel-good story and likable team image were shattered in certain circles by one play.

“Dirty f’n play. And I liked Vandy & their underdog nature till now, but f them. They deserve the worst for their dirty play,” the fan commented.

“Dirty play by Vanderbilt,” another said.

Looking at the play, Singh did not act outside the bounds of legal tackling technique. However, he could have relinquished control of Pribula’s leg when the rest of the defense boxed in the quarterback near the end zone.

Under true freshman Matt Zollers, Missouri tried to rally, even tying the game. However, a late Vanderbilt score put the Commodores ahead by seven. The Tigers fell a yard short on a final Hail Mary, as Zoller’s pass to wideout Kevin Coleman Jr. fell three feet short of the goal line. Missouri will now rely on Zollers, hoping he can provide a spark.
