Mike Norvell’s Florida State Seminoles fell 21-11 to the NC State Wolfpack in Friday night’s game at Carter-Finley Stadium. The win gave the Wolfpack their sixth win of the year, securing bowl eligibility.

Fans Call for Mike Norvell’s Firing after the NC State Loss
Florida State still hasn’t earned a road win this season, and Friday’s loss at NC State pushed the Seminoles’ road losing streak to 10 games. It has now been 727 days since Norvell’s team last won away from home, which was a November 2023 win over Florida.
The Seminoles have a long history of struggling in Raleigh, and they are now trying to avoid missing a bowl for the fourth time in six seasons.
In Friday’s game, Florida State’s offense faltered against NC State’s pass defense, managing only 203 yards through the air. Critical mistakes on special teams contributed to the defeat, and it ultimately fuelled an outpouring of frustration from fans who are calling for Norvell’s immediate firing.

“I’m sorry, but Florida State has to fire Mike Norvell. You can’t go 4–16 over a two-year period at a school like FSU against major conference opponents,” one said.
“Mike Norvell should probably be canned anyways, but if he doesn’t beat Florida there’s no way he can survive,” a person said.

“Yeah, just go ahead and tell Mike Norvell to never come back to Florida State. Losing in that fashion to NC State is blasphemous,” one added.
The 2025 season has already seen the firings of Brian Kelly from the LSU Tigers and James Franklin from the Penn State Nittany Lions. Both of them had stronger resumes than Norvell but were still fired midseason.
Meanwhile, Florida State athletic director Michael Alford issued a statement last month announcing that a “comprehensive assessment” of the program would take place after the season concludes.
Norvell agreed to an eight-year extension in 2024 that runs through 2031 and is worth more than $84 million before incentives. However, after last year’s 2-10 finish, he restructured the contract in December, returning $4.5 million of his 2025 salary to support a university revenue-sharing plan.
If Florida State decides to fire Norvell before the end of the season, the school will owe more than $53 million in buyout money. The Seminoles rank No. 34 in the PFSN College Football Playoff Ranking.
