With literally just one second remaining on the clock, Michigan somehow found a way to complete a comeback and steal a 13–12 victory.
However, the dramatic finish immediately drew the attention of college football fans. Social media quickly erupted with criticism, with many accusing the officiating crew of showing favoritism toward the Big Ten powerhouse.
“I’ve never said something like this before. But that referee crew NEEDS to be investigated. That is actual straight lying garbage putting one second back on the clock. Absolutely despicable,” one fan wrote.
“If the script was flipped, and Western Michigan needed to find a phantom one second left on the clock, officials would’ve shrugged and said, ‘Game’s over.’ Instead, we get this farce of an ending,” another comment read.

The dramatic touchdown came after the ball was snapped with one second remaining, following an earlier Hail Mary attempt from Underwood that appeared to fall incomplete after the clock had already reached zero.
However, following a brief review, officials determined that one second should be restored to the clock. That ruling gave Michigan another chance to make something happen, and the Wolverines took full advantage.
