Nebraska enters a defining moment Saturday when the Cornhuskers face Michigan in what could be their biggest test of the 2025 season. At 3-0, the team has a chance to prove that Rhule’s program is ready to break through, with the head coach reminding fans that his commitment to Lincoln is long-term.
On the weekly “House Rhules” podcast, which provides insight into the program and supports Nebraska’s NIL efforts, Rhule reflected on both the present and future. He acknowledged his pattern of success in the third year of coaching stops but explained that his goals at Nebraska go far beyond that timeline.
“I can’t wait for year three, but year four, year five, year six,” Rhule told his friend and Philadelphia radio host Anthony Gargano. “I loved Temple and Baylor and made many good friends in Charlotte, but you can do things here that you can’t do anywhere else. I want to have year 10 and year 11.”
Rhule also spoke about the influence of his mentor, George Dillon, a former Syracuse offensive line coach. He recalled how colleagues honored Dillon after his passing in New Haven, his hometown.
“When he passed away, we went to New Haven, his hometown, and we didn’t know how to honor him,” Rhule said. “So, we got like Paul Pascalone was there. A bunch of coaches were there. And we got about 200 pizzas from Modern, we got them from Frank Pepe’s, we got them from Sally’s. It was like, you know what, a life well-lived, a great coach. We honored him with New Haven pizza back in his hometown.”
For Rhule, that gesture symbolized the lasting impact of a coach who shaped his path. Nebraska’s biggest advantage this season may be quarterback Dylan Raiola, who struggled with consistency as a freshman but has looked sharp through the first three games.

When asked about his readiness for conference play, Rhule offered a confident response:
“Dylan’s more than ready.” He emphasized how Raiola grew from last season’s challenges, adding, “Everything Dylan went through last year was for the first time.”
Since he arrived in 2022, Rhule has steadily elevated the program, and 2025 already feels like his strongest team yet. With Nebraska’s tradition and broad alumni base behind him, Rhule has made it clear he intends to keep building in Lincoln while honoring the lessons of those who guided him.
