In the NIL era, many schools believe appearance matters.

The comment regarding “better coaching” can be interpreted in various ways. First, it could signal a fundamental break between Merritt and the entire Colorado coaching staff. The defense ranked No. 77 in the PFSN CFB Defense Impact Rankings. The unit allowed 30.5 points per game. Additionally, opponents scored more than 35 points five times. That includes back-to-back 50-point games against Utah and Arizona.
On top of that, the effectiveness of pass-rush coordinator Warren Sapp’s coaching style remains largely unknown. Sapp is a Hall of Fame defensive lineman with multiple Pro Bowls and one Super Bowl ring.
