Lee Steele-to-LSU Buzz Grows After Lane Kiffin Preaches ‘Hunger’

Lee Steele praises his LSU visit with Lane Kiffin, an early connection that could encourage more recruits in the 2028 class.

Tight end Lee Steele has already become one of the elite prospects in the 2028 recruiting class due to his size and athleticism. He also holds offers from many top schools, including Lane Kiffin’s LSU.

4-Star TE Lee Steele Praises Lane Kiffin and LSU

Steele visited Kiffin’s LSU program for spring practice on March 28 and came away impressed with the experience.

“Man, it was something that every kid dreams of,” Steele said. “It was great talking to [Lane Kiffin] and talking to [LSU tight ends coach Joe] Cox. It is a great place for kids to come in and play.”

Steele is a phenomenal player, ranked as a four-star prospect, No. 8 tight end in the 2028 class, and No. 177 recruit in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. A player of his talent would provide a major boost to the LSU offense, which last season posted a 76.1 score in the PFSN College Football Offense Impact Metric, ranking No. 66 in the country.

Kiffin is aiming to make that potential a reality as he has already built a solid connection with Steele.

“So I met Lane Kiffin yesterday, and I talked to him,” Steele said. “And we just talked about what it takes to play there. And he talked about Trey’Dez [Green] and how Trey Dez works. And I saw how Trey’Dez works. And that’s a tight end at LSU. And it takes hunger, man.”

Following his LSU visit, Steele also shared a photo with Kiffin and Cox on X.

“Blessed to be able to attend spring practice @LSUfootball, thank you @Lane_Kiffin @CoachJoeCox for the hospitality and knowledge you shared with me today,” Steele tweeted.

LSU is also appealing because of how it plans to use him in the offense and potentially on the basketball court. “LSU is the same, and they use a hybrid tight end like me, and with a possible basketball offer in the SEC that would be amazing,” Steele told Touchdown Alabama.

LSU also needs Steele as the Tigers didn’t land any commits in the 2028 class. An early commitment from Steele can encourage other recruits from the class to consider Kiffin’s program.

Steele attends Orange Beach High School in Alabama and has several visits scheduled: Florida on April 4, Clemson on April 11, Alabama on April 14, Auburn on April 16, Ole Miss on April 17, and Indiana on April 18.

In-state programs Alabama and Auburn are considered the frontrunners, with On3 projecting a 30.6% chance for Auburn, 18.1% for Alabama, and 15.5% for LSU. However, LSU can shift the momentum if Kiffin and his staff continue to recruit him heavily.
