Lane Kiffin’s LSU recently suffered its first setback of the transfer portal after losing out on Cincinnati quarterback Brendan Sorsby to Texas Tech. The announcement that Sorsby had committed to the Red Raiders came just 48 hours after he visited LSU.
Meanwhile, Ole Miss quarterback Trindiad Chambliss is planning to return to Ole Miss, pending the results of his ongoing eligibility battle with the NCAA. This signing took place ahead of the Rebels’ upcoming clash in the Fiesta Bowl against the Miami Hurricanes.
Lane Kiffin’s LSU Planned To Offer Trinidad Chambliss $4 Million After Brendan Sorsby Snub, Reveals LSU Insider
During the latest episode of the ‘Locked on LSU,’ LSU insider Matt Moscona discussed the potential quarterback options for the program after Sorsby’s decision. In this segment, he revealed the amount LSU would have been willing to pay for the Ole Miss star.
“I will tell you, what I have said on the record here, is that LSU’s offer for Trinidad Chambliss, provided he gets his extra year, is approaching 4$ million. As I’ve been told, and i’m very comfortable saying that,” Moscona revealed during the segment.
However, according to a recent report from ON3, Chambliss is preparing to return to Ole Miss for his sixth season, shutting down any potential hopes of a reunion with Lane Kiffin. Chambliss agreed to a new deal with the school for the 2026 season, pending the grant of his eligibility waiver.
Recently, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that the Ole Miss quarterback was trying to request a medical redshirt for the 2022 season at Ferris State. That year, he dealt with persistent respiratory issues. No decision has been made at this time.
Additionally, during the buildup to their game with Georgia, the Ole Miss quarterback addressed rumors surrounding him and a potential move to LSU. During the press conference, Chambliss stated that Kiffin had made no attempt to contact him.
“Trinidad Chambliss, here at Sugar Bowl media day, says he’s not communicated with Lane Kiffin and adds, ‘I don’t think that’s even allowed right now,” reported Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger during a press conference ahead of Ole Miss’s game with Georgia.
Meanwhile, according to a recent report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Texas Tech will pay heavily for the highly ranked transfer portal quarterback LSU missed out on. According to the report, Sorsby is set to earn around 5$ million in NIL money for the 2026 season.
“What I was told about Texas Tech’s offer for Brendad Sorsby is that it went north of 5$ million. So just think of what you’ve seen from Trinidad Chambliss here and the amazing season he’s had for Ole Miss. And you’re willing to approach 4$ million,” Moscona suggested.
After throwing for 282 yards and a touchdown during Ole Miss’s playoff game against Tulane, according to PFSN’s QB impact rankings, Trinidad Chambliss ranks fifth nationally in quarterback play. With an impact score of 90.3, the Rebels’ quarterback threw for over 3000 yards and 21 touchdowns in 2025.
According to PFSN CFB QB Impact Rankings, the new Texas Tech quarterback was ranked in the top 10 nationally in quarterback play. Throwing for over 2800 yards and 27 passing touchdowns, Sorsby finished with an impact ranking of 88.2.
With the analytics suggesting that Chambliss has better quarterback play overall compared to Sorsby, reuniting with his old starter could have been the perfect option for Lane Kiffin. However, Chambliss now looks set to return to Ole Miss should he return at all.
