Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin is almost single-handedly keeping the college football coaching carousel moving. Over the past few weeks, Kiffin has been the foremost name linked to several top jobs in college football.
On Monday, reports emerged that Kiffin’s family had visited both Baton Rouge and Gainesville in response to the coach’s links to the LSU Tigers and Florida Gators jobs.
Lane Kiffin Disputes Ole Miss Ultimatum
On Monday, On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter had issued Kiffin a hard deadline of Nov. 28, before the Egg Bowl against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, to clarify his future in Oxford.
During Tuesday’s segment of The Pat McAfee Show, Kiffin disputed the reports about the ultimatum by the Rebels.
“That’s absolutely not true,” Kiffin said. “There’s been no ultimatum, anything like that at all. I don’t know where that came from, like a lot of the stuff that comes out there. Like I said, we’re having a blast. I love it here.”

He added, “It just couldn’t be better. You pray for things, our fans prayed for this type of thing. So enjoy it. You’re 10-1, you’re getting ready, you have a bye week. You get to watch half the country lose and there’s no way we can lose Saturday and then we play the Egg Bowl, and then you go dominate that and keep the Egg Bowl trophy home, where it’s been a long time.”
With a bye week before the game against the Bulldogs, according to PFSN’s College Football Playoff Meter, the Rebels have all but clinched a place in college football’s showcase, with a 99.73% chance that they will clinch one of the 12 spots on offer.
Kiffin Dismisses Speculation About His Future in Oxford
When he was asked about his future in Oxford after his team had beaten the Gators, Kiffin dismissed the speculation linking him to other teams and instead chose to focus on the crucial 34-24 win over Florida that confirmed a fourth 10-win season during his six-year reign in charge of Ole Miss.

“I love what we’re doing here,” Kiffin said. “Today was awesome. To even talk about it right now would be so disrespectful to our players and how well they played today. We’ve got a lot of things going here. Doing really well, and I love it here.”
According to ESPN reports, the Rebels have indicated to Kiffin’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, that they would match any contract offer the coach receives from either the Tigers or the Gators. Kiffin, who earns $9 million annually, is currently the No. 10 highest-paid coach in college football and No. 5 in the SEC.
