Kaytron Allen’s Breakout Game Rewrites Penn State Record Books

Allen now stands as Penn State’s all-time rushing leader with 3,954 career yards with his Saturday’s performance. Coming into the game, he needed just 50 yards to surpass Saquon Barkley for second place and 138 to overtake former Nittany Lions standout Evan Royster for the No. 1 spot.

Allen jumped past Barkley on Penn State’s opening drive by racking up 57 yards on his first four carries. He later touched Royster’s mark with a short run in the fourth quarter, then immediately followed it with a 13-yard touchdown, which was his second score of the day.

Following the game, Allen shared his excitement about breaking Royster’s record.

“It meant a lot,” Allen said. “I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. I’m glad I got the opportunity to do this. It’s been a long four years. Getting a win that mattered the most to me. I just wanted to win for real. Then I got an opportunity to break the record. So everything goes hand in hand, and it’s on senior night.”

Royster had said back in April that he hoped to witness the moment his record fell.

“There’s that common saying – records are made to be broken,” Royster said. “I hope it happens when I get to see it, but if it doesn’t, I’ll be proud either way.”

Allen made this happen and finished Saturday’s game with 160 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries.

Meanwhile, Allen’s backfield partner, Nicholas Singleton, also drew close to Royster’s career rushing total. Singleton posted 95 yards on 10 combined carries and receptions and scored twice himself.

With those two touchdowns, Singleton tied Barkley for a pair of career marks: rushing touchdowns (43) and total touchdowns (53). He will have the chance to break both next weekend when Penn State faces 5-6 Rutgers.

On Saturday, Penn State put together its strongest performance of the season, finding the end zone on all four of its first-half drives. The win over Nebraska improved the Nittany Lions to 5-6 this season. Penn State stands at No. 43 in the PFSN College Football Playoff Meter.
