During last night’s game against LSU, wide receiver Ryan Williams finished with 3 receptions for 33 yards. However, some questions have emerged surrounding the star receiver. Germie Bernard finished the game with three receptions for 79 yards.
Alabama and Kalen DeBoer managed to rally to beat the Tigers 20-9 last night. This puts them firmly in pole position to reach the College Football playoffs with an 8-1 record. According to PFSN’s playoff meter, the Crimson Tide has a 12.35% chance of winning the national championship.
Kalen DeBoer Warned of Ryan Williams’ Problem as Germie Bernard Continues Hot Streak.
On the latest episode of “Adapt and Respond,” with RJ Young, the College football analyst previewed Alabama’s upcoming game against Oklahoma. During this segment, Young shared a warning for DeBoer about a potential issue with his wide receiver.
“But I’m still very much trying to figure out what to do with the Ryan Williams problem, which is, he’s wide receiver, too, but he’s still the most talented wide receiver on that team. Even though Germie Bernard has been playing out of his mind this year.” Young stated.
According to PFSN’s CFB WR Impact Rankings, Williams is still the most talented receiver at Alabama. Currently, he sits as the 32nd-best wide receiver in the nation with an 80.7 impact score. He has 33 receptions for 495 yards this season.
Meanwhile, Bernard ranks 52nd overall, with an impact score of 79.3. However, the apparent wide receiver two has actually been targeted more than Williams this year. This season, Bernard has had 57 targets and six touchdowns compared to Williams’ 48 and 3.
“But I tend to see with him, perhaps wide receiver two off the board behind Carnell Tate in 2026… Ryan Williams, they keep giving him opportunities to make plays but really it’s been about what Ty Simpson see’s, and what he sees is a lot of Germie Bernard.” Young claimed.
In PFSN’s most recent 2026 NFL mock draft, the Alabama wide receiver was projected to land with the 80th pick deep into the draft, with the Carolina Panthers. This placed him behind multiple other wide receivers, including Tate, Jordyn Tyson, and more.
“With his inside-outside versatility, return experience, and consistent hands and ball skills, Germie Bernard feels like a safe bet to be a solid complementary weapon in the NFL, which the Panthers could use.” PFSN’s draft expert wrote.
In recent weeks, College football analysts have also pointed out Alabama’s use of Bernard in the backfield. This included a key third-yard jet sweep yesterday to set up a first down. In yesterday’s game, Bernard had one carry for three rushing yards.
Meanwhile, Williams will be eligible for the 2027 NFL Draft. This will pin him against some of the top receivers in the nation, including Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith, who looks all but guaranteed to become the No.1 overall pick in the 2027 Draft.
