Dan Lanning’s First Oregon OL Coach Lands Role on Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama Staff

Kalen DeBoer hired Dan Lanning's first Oregon offensive line coach as the new Crimson Tide coach for the 2026 season.

Dan Lanning’s Oregon will go into the 2026 season with perhaps the highest expectations the program has ever had. Even with a relatively short head-coaching resume, Lanning has delivered year-by-year improvement with the Ducks and has continued to stack his staff with top-tier coaching talent.

Kalen DeBoer Adds Dan Lanning’s Ex-Oregon Offensive Line Coach to Staff

Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama is expected to hire Adrian Klemm as its next offensive line coach, with Klemm set to take over for Chris Kapilovic on the Crimson Tide staff.

Klemm was one of the first hires by Lanning, joining Oregon as associate head coach, offensive line coach, and run game coordinator on Dec. 28, 2021. He also served as the Ducks’ associate head coach and run game coordinator.

“I am really excited that Adrian Klemm is joining us here at Oregon,” Lanning said at the time of the hiring. “He is one of the very best offensive line coaches in the country and a great addition to this staff. Our student-athletes will benefit greatly from his extensive experience in the NFL. Providing a tremendous experience for our student-athletes is always the top priority here at Oregon, and they are getting a terrific teacher and mentor in Coach Klemm.”

The hire paid off: Oregon finished the 2022 season ranked No. 1 in college football in fewest sacks allowed, giving up just five in 13 games, while ranking sixth in total offense.

Klemm coached two All-Americans on the 2022 Oregon offensive line, and three of his linemen went on to play in the NFL. He was also a phenomenal recruiter, serving as the primary recruiter for 5-star offensive tackle Josh Conerly Jr. in the Ducks’ 2022 class.

Klemm began his coaching career at SMU as a graduate assistant in 2008, was promoted to offensive line coach the following year, and added the title of recruiting coordinator in 2011. He later spent five years at UCLA (2012-2017) as associate head coach, offensive line coach, and run game coordinator.

Klemm coached in the NFL as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ assistant offensive line coach from 2019-2020, before being promoted to offensive line coach in 2021. After the 2022 season at Oregon, Klemm spent 2023 as the New England Patriots’ offensive line coach. He did not coach in 2024 but worked as a defensive analyst at USC in 2025, helping the team finish at No. 4 in the nation with a 90.3 score in the PFSN College Football Offense Impact Metric.

Before coaching, Klemm had an eight-year NFL career, starting as a second-round pick in 2000. He spent five seasons with the Patriots, winning three Super Bowls, and also played with the Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders.
