Quarterback Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills has proven to be one of the NFL’s toughest quarterbacks during his career. Allen has led the Bills into the AFC Divisional Round on Saturday, where they will play in Denver against the Broncos and quarterback Bo Nix.
Allen, though, before he earned NFL Player of the Year status, had quite a career in college, too.
Where Did Bills QB Josh Allen Play In College?
Allen played three seasons for the Wyoming Cowboys in the Mountain West.
In his three seasons, Allen completed 56.2% of his passes for 5,066 yards, 44 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. In 2015, Allen appeared in only two games, but that increased to 14 in 2016 and 11 in 2017. The Bills made Allen a first-round pick (No. 7 overall) in the 2018 NFL Draft.
Allen entered the 2015 season with hopes of becoming the Cowboys’ starting quarterback. In his second game with the program, Allen began to but suffered a broken collarbone and missed the rest of the season. After healing up from his injury, Allen came back strong in the next two seasons.
But did you know that Allen didn’t start his college football career at Wyoming? He actually attended Reedley College, a junior college in Fresno, Calif. It wasn’t that big of a jump for the California native to go there, but he had his sights set on major Division I college football.
His path eventually led him to Wyoming. Allen, though, did not earn a degree while in college. He chose to enter the NFL and, for the most part, has been all-world for the Bills. Allen has been a key member of Bills head coach Sean McDermott’s offensive schemes, showing his toughness not only as a passer but also with his legs.
During the 2025 NFL regular season for the Bills, Allen totaled 3,668 passing yards, 25 touchdown passes, and 10 interceptions. He finished with a QB impact score of 65.0. According to the PFSN NFL QB Impact metrics, which are measured throughout the regular season, Allen had an impact score of 90.0 and graded out to an A-.

Allen’s college football days prepared him for the rigors of the NFL. Now, heading into Saturday’s showdown with the Broncos, Allen hopes to put it all together and help the Bills reach the AFC Championship Game.
