Bill Belichick’s highly anticipated move to North Carolina has quickly soured, becoming a significant disappointment just months into the former NFL coach’s tenure. After a 2-3 start that includes three blowout losses, the Tar Heels’ high-profile decision to hire him looks like a failure.
During this time, one of the main conversations surrounding the UNC head coach is his girlfriend, Jordan Hudson. Fans have criticized Belichick for allowing Hudson’s presence on the sidelines during games.
UNC Reporter Comments On Bill Belichick And Jordan Hudson’s Reputation With UNC Fans
During a recent episode of ‘The Sports Gossip Show.’ UNC alumnus and reporter, Grace Raynor, who also contributes to reports from the Athletic, opened up about the public perception surrounding Belichick’s girlfriend, Hudson.
“I think there’s a sentiment that. The whole spectacle, Jordan included, is just a little embarrassing. It’s so bizarre to reconcile, because Belichick with the Patriots was like, there were no distractions. He’s not managing distractions at Carolina; he’s single-handedly, with the help of Jordan, creating them.” Raynor suggested.
Hudson became one of the most polarizing figures during Belichick’s time in North Carolina. Her net worth is estimated to be around $1 million.
Over the last few months, there have also been numerous reports about the football program’s downward freefall after fights between players and the suspension of an assistant coach. However, North Carolina GM Michael Lombardi has denied the reports.
“We understand we have to get better, and we understand we have to play more competitively in the ACC games, and I think our team wants to do that. I’m not sure there’s the disconnect that has been reported.” Lombardi shared.
“The fact is, it seems like a lot of people internally are like, a lot of this is Mike’s fault. Apparently, he’s saying to recruits, Why do you want to play for Bill Belichick, instead of being like, here’s why we would like you to join our program, and why it would be good for your development,” he added.
With Belichick, Lombardi brought 70 new players to this squad that is just 2-3 on the season. The team ranks near the bottom in almost every national and conference statistical category. PFSN’s CFB Playoff Meter projects them to finish with a 4-7 record.
Highest-paid GM in college football? UNC’s Michael Lombardi. The results don’t add up. Worst part? Plenty of people in the industry told the folks in Chapel Hill it would play out like this… https://t.co/mGL7WQ252Q pic.twitter.com/xzRL1b4yhL

Lombardi recently got into controversy after sending a letter to UNC boosters. This letter was met with confusion by most who read it, as it begged for patience as Belichick tries to build a consistent program.
Lombardi and Belichick, who put this roster together, relied heavily on the transfer portal to build a team, signing almost 70 players. During a recent press conference, the Tar Heels’ head coach defended Lombardi.
“We signed players who didn’t have offers or offers that they didn’t want. Kind of slid through the cracks in terms of the recruiting process. We signed players in the transfer portal who were available.”
“We were late in the running on a lot of them. We were late on relationships. We were late on it in contacts. We ran out of time. We did the best we could.” Belichick explained.
The Athletic reporter also revealed that she believed Lombardi was the main cause of Belichick’s downfall. During this rant, the reporter also revealed that there might be a way for the head coach to save his job.
“When you talk to a source and you say, Hey, we kind of heard that maybe Bill getting rid of Lombardi might help things. And the source says, yeah, that might give Belichick a fighting chance, then that’s pretty revealing.” Raynor added.
Currently, UNC sits at 2-3 on the year. With Belichick still at the helm, the Tar Heels are looking to bounce back from their heavy loss to Clemson as they travel to face the California Golden Bears.
