On a recent episode of “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” the college football analyst discussed the ongoing coaching carousel and shared his thoughts on the current situation brewing in the UNC locker room. The conversation quickly turned to Hudson’s apparent absence.

“I’m curious, where’s Jordon Hudson been? Since that TV show fell apart, and Bill Belichick started losing, I’m not seeing a lot of her anymore. Does she not want to hang around losers?” Jason McIntyre questioned during the show.
The series in question, a docuseries that was set to follow UNC for the entire season, was canceled following the Tar Heels’ disastrous start. Initially slated to be produced by Hulu, the project was intended to document Belichick’s whole first season in college football.
“Jordon is playing an active role in the filming and production of a documentary about Coach Bill Belichick’s first season of college football, so in that capacity, she may be seen,” a PR report from UNC stated earlier in the year.
However, the off-field drama is not the only issue plaguing the program. During the same segment, Cowherd questioned the roster-building strategy and culture at UNC, particularly the heavy reliance on the transfer portal.
“The thing that we’ve learned with College Football coaching. You can’t have a roster of 60% transfers. It ruins chemistry. You’re gonna miss too many guys. It’s gonna create animosity in the room,” Cowherd suggested. “I think the thing that’s gone wrong with Bill Belichick is they spent a lot of money on a lot of players that didn’t hit.”
Alongside Belichick, GM Michael Lombardi brought in 70 new players to a squad that is just 2-5 on the season. As a result, the team ranks near the bottom in almost every national and conference statistical category. For instance, quarterback Gio Lopez currently sits 157th in overall rankings, according to PFSN’s QB impact ratings. Lopez, who reportedly cost UNC $4 million, has thrown for under 1,000 yards this season with only three passing touchdowns after suffering an injury in week four.

Over the last few months, numerous reports have also surfaced regarding the football program’s downward freefall, including incidents of player-on-player violence and the suspension of an assistant coach. North Carolina’s GM, however, has denied these reports.
“We understand we have to get better, and we understand we have to play more competitively in the ACC games, and I think our team wants to do that,” Lombardi shared. “I’m not sure there’s the disconnect that has been reported.”
The financial situation complicates any potential coaching change. If UNC were to fire Belichick before December 2027, the university would owe him upwards of $20 million. For now, it appears the Tar Heels are stuck with Belichick for the foreseeable future, leaving fans and players to wonder how the team will turn things around.
