Jeremiah Smith Sends 4-Word Message as Younger Brother Makes Ohio State Decision

The Smith family legacy at Ohio State is officially set to continue. While Jeremiah Smith is already a star for the Buckeyes, his younger brother, Angelo, made a major decision on Sunday that ensures the family name will be a part of the program for years to come. The commitment marks a significant moment for the brothers, one following a record-setting path and the other just beginning to forge his own.

How Did Jeremiah Smith React to His Brother’s Commitment?

Angelo Smith, a three-star safety from Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Hollywood, Florida, made it official Sunday, committing to follow his sibling’s path to Columbus and join the Buckeyes football program. He chose Ohio State over offers from Miami, Oklahoma State, Georgia State, Toledo, and Akron. Recruiting reporter Hayes Fawcett announced the commitment on Instagram with a post featuring Angelo alongside an image of Jeremiah in his Ohio State uniform.

Following the announcement, Jeremiah posted a four-word message on social media: “Love who love you.” The comment showed a big brother guiding his younger sibling through a major life decision.

Interestingly, the younger Smith had to earn his Ohio State offer rather than receive one based on family connections. During his June camp visit, Angelo impressed defensive coaches Tim Walton and Matt Guerrieri enough to receive a scholarship offer the same day. He appreciated working for the opportunity instead of having it handed to him.

This work ethic showed on the field. Angelo recorded 40 tackles, 11 pass breakups, and three interceptions during Chaminade-Madonna’s 2024 state championship season. Through three games this fall, he has added 18 tackles with an interception, two pass deflections, and a half-sack.

Despite the family connection, the brothers will likely never play together at Ohio State. Jeremiah becomes NFL Draft eligible after the 2026 season and is expected to declare early, while Angelo will not arrive in Columbus until 2027 as part of the Buckeyes’ recruiting class.

What Sets Angelo Smith Apart From His Star Brother?

Physically, Angelo stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 170 pounds, which is significantly smaller than his 6-foot-3, 223-pound brother. However, as a high school junior, he still has room to grow before arriving on campus. Angelo calls his work ethic his biggest strength, and unlike his offensive-minded brother, he will play on the defensive side of the ball at safety or cornerback.

The commitment strengthens Ohio State’s 2027 recruiting class, as Angelo joins five-star wide receiver Jamier Brown and four-star quarterback Brady Edmunds. He becomes the third member of what is shaping up to be another strong recruiting haul for the Buckeyes.

Ultimately, Angelo’s decision continues the Smith family’s connection to Ohio State while also maintaining the pipeline from Chaminade-Madonna Prep. The program has produced multiple Buckeye contributors, with the Smith brothers representing the latest chapter in that relationship.

Even as Jeremiah continues his exceptional sophomore season with 20 receptions for 315 yards and three touchdowns through three games, he still finds time to support his brother. His supportive message shows the tight bond between the two as Angelo takes this significant step in his own football career, ensuring the Smith name will continue at Ohio State long after Jeremiah moves on to the NFL.
