Former Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was detained by police on Wednesday after reportedly getting fired over an inappropriate relationship.

The Sherrone Moore saga at the University of Michigan has reportedly taken another turn.

Moore was fired for cause by the school on Wednesday afternoon for reportedly having an inappropriate relationship. Michigan immediately replaced Moore with Biff Poggi as interim head coach.

On Wednesday night, however, another report surfaced regarding Moore.

Everything We Know About Sherrone Moore Following Michigan Dismissal

Update 12/12 at 6:40 p.m. ET: Moore bonded out on Friday afternoon, according to a post on X from Outkick. The following details were shared in the post: “$25,000 cash bond. Required to wear GPS monitoring. Cannot consume alcohol or drugs. Mental health treatment. Can’t leave state without permission. Next appearance Jan. 22 at 9 a.m. ET”.

Earlier on Friday, NBC Sports lead college football Insider Nicole Auerbach posted on X the charges levied against Moore. “Sherrone Moore has been charged with third-degree felony home invasion, misdemeanor stalking (domestic relationship) and misdemeanor breaking & entering,” Auerbach wrote.

Moore appeared on camera on Friday at his arraignment hearing.

Update 12/11 at 3:45 p.m. ET: In a dramatic twist that could have significant ramifications for the Michigan Wolverines, a report from NBC Sports College Football Insider Nicole Auerbach has shed more light on the circumstances surrounding Moore’s firing from the program that has rocked the college football world.

According to the report, Michigan had been alerted that Moore was “dealing with mental health issues” before the Wednesday move to remove him as head coach. Despite that knowledge, AD Warde Manuel fired him. That in itself presents a moral rather than legal dilemma.

However, Manuel reportedly fired Moore with no HR representative present. Furthermore, there was no security present at the time the Michigan head coach was relieved of his duties. The latter details could prove problematic for the program, especially if Moore contests the “for cause” element of his firing in a bid to recoup lost earnings.

Update 12/11 at 12:54 p.m. ET: ESPN Senior Writer Dan Wetzel reported on Thursday afternoon that Moore “is ‘expected to appear in court for arraignment’ on Friday, per the Pittsfield Township Police Department.”

Update 12/11 at 12:20 p.m. ET: ESPN Senior Writer Dan Wetzel posted an update on X regarding Moore’s situation on Thursday morning.

“The Washtenaw County Prosecutors Office tells ESPN that no decision on charging Sherrone Moore is expected today,” Wetzel wrote. “The former Michigan coach remains in custody.

“‘The matter involving Mr. Moore remains under active investigation by law-enforcement, and as a result, we do not expect charging decisions or an arraignment today. Mr. Moore remains in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail.'”

Update 12/10 at 10:45 p.m. ET: ESPN college football writer Pete Thamel posted on X a press release from Pittsfield Charter Township. Thamel notes that the press release makes no reference to Sherrone Moore, but references “investigating an alleged assault.” Statement: “A suspect in this case was taken into custody….”

“INFORMATION: The Pittsfield Police Department responded to the above location at the above date and time for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault,” the press release reads. “The Department has received multiple media requests for information. A suspect in this case was taken into custody.

“The incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community,” according to the press release. “The suspect was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosector. At this time, the investigation is ongoing.

“Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigation, and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details. Further details regarding the incident will be released as soon as permissible.”

According to a report from ESPN Senior Writer Dan Wetzel, Moore was detained by police in Saline, Mich., and turned over to police in Pittsfield Township for investigation into potential charges. Wetzel had help from ESPN college football writer Pete Thamel on his report regarding Moore.

A statement was released by the City of Saline Police Department on Wednesday night. The statement said, “The City of Saline Police Department assisted in locating and detaining former University of Michigan head football coach Sherrone Moore. Mr. Moore was turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation into potential charges.”

Moore took over with two games left in the 2023 college football season for former Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh, who was caught up in a scandal involving Connor Stallions.

The news surrounding Moore’s dismissal has sent shockwaves through the world of college football. This leaves another high-profile college head coaching position open to be filled. There have been a couple of names floated by media members on Wednesday, including Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer.

No word on a full-time replacement has come out of Michigan at this time. Poggi coached two seasons at Charlotte after spending two seasons as Harbaugh’s assistant head coach at Michigan. Once the Charlotte job ended, Poggi came back to take over that same role under Moore.

With Moore now gone from the Wolverines, it will be up to Poggi and the rest of the Michigan coaching staff to get the team ready for the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Michigan will face the University of Texas Longhorns in the bowl game. Both Michigan and Texas were looking to get spots in the College Football Playoff this season, but that didn’t happen.

Moore’s story continues to become more interesting as details regarding his dismissal emerge. At this point, there has been no comment from Moore or his representatives regarding Michigan firing him for cause.
