USC freshman quarterback Husan Longstreet enters the transfer portal with four years of remaining eligibility. During his brief stint in Los Angeles, the dual-threat quarterback went 13-of-15 for 103 yards and a touchdown. Longstreet also ran for 76 yards on 11 carries and scored two touchdowns.
Oregon
At Oregon, Longstreet’s prospects depend on starting quarterback Dante Moore’s decision regarding the NFL draft, as Moore still has two years of eligibility. Should Moore depart for the draft, Longstreet could step into an available starting spot.
Despite his limited snaps, Longstreet is positioned as a potential successor. Head coach Dan Lanning values quarterbacks with athleticism and quick mental processing, traits that Longstreet brings from his experience at USC.
Northwestern
A move to Northwestern would require Longstreet to adjust from California to Evanston, Ill. Two members of the Wildcats’ coaching staff could influence this transition: new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, whose uptempo, vertical-passing offense favors a quarterback with both mobility and a strong arm, and quarterbacks coach Jerry Neuheisel, formerly of UCLA.
Having seen Neuheisel guide rapid improvements in quarterbacks before, Longstreet could find Northwestern an appealing fit for his transfer.
Georgia Tech
At Georgia Tech, following the graduation of Haynes King, head coach Brent Key needs a versatile quarterback. Longstreet’s move from USC signals he wants to avoid redshirting and play immediately at a Power Four program.
Georgia Tech hovers near the ACC’s top, and for Longstreet, transitioning here could offer a chance at immediate contribution while aiming for conference success. He would represent one of the better athletes that Key could recruit through the transfer portal.
Purdue
Should Longstreet transition to Purdue, he may have the opportunity to start over incumbent Ryan Browne in West Lafayette, Ind. Despite Purdue’s modest reputation, Longstreet could fill a key role, working with coach Barry Odom to develop his skills against Big Ten competition and prepare for a possible professional future.
He could be the transfer that the Boilermakers need. Browne occupied the No. 95 position on PFSN’s CFB QB Impact Score, with a 76.6.
Illinois
At Illinois, Longstreet would join a team committed to running but also balancing with an aggressive passing game. The Spread RPO system rewards quarterbacks who make quick, sound decisions.
In this environment, Longstreet wouldn’t be asked to win games singlehandedly and could contribute by playing efficient football that supports both the offense and defense. Plus, replacing Luke Altmeyer requires a special skill set that the former five-star recruit features.
Longstreet will impact a team, even as a redshirt freshman. Chances remain high that he would like to play immediately. In all honesty, he should. After watching USC’s high-powered offense, even playing within it, sitting on the bench does not seem like the path for him.
