Mike Norvell’s Florida State Turns Up the Heat in Race To Land 4-Star QB Jaden O’Neal After Oklahoma Decommitment

Florida State surges for 4-star QB Jaden O’Neal after his Oklahoma decommitment, with Mike Norvell’s Seminoles gaining major momentum.

When a blue-chip quarterback decommits from a national powerhouse like Oklahoma, the entire college football world pays attention. That’s exactly what’s happening now after Jaden O’Neal announced he is no longer committed to the Sooners.

Naturally, many programs are now lining up to land the talented quarterback. But Mike Norvell’s Florida State is reportedly making the most aggressive move to land his commitment. If momentum favors them, Tallahassee might soon be welcoming a new QB1.

Jaden O’Neal Draws Interest From Florida State After Oklahoma Decommitment

Before announcing his decommitment, O’Neal had been committed to the Sooners for nearly a year. The Mustang (OK) standout confirmed his new decision on Thursday through a social media statement, shortly after an official visit to Florida State.

O’Neal said in his announcement, “When I committed to OU nearly a year ago, I felt a genuine connection to the program. I was recruited by coach Seth Littrell, and I believed in the vision and support I felt from the entire Sooner family. More than just my talent or skill set, I appreciated how the staff respected me for who I am and for the values my parents instilled in me.”

O’Neal is ranked as the No. 14 quarterback and No. 205 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He originally committed to Oklahoma while Seth Littrell was the offensive coordinator. However, with recent coaching changes at Oklahoma and the program now pursuing another quarterback, Bowe Bentley, O’Neal decided it was time to explore other options.

According to Steve Wiltfong, the Seminoles are now in the driver’s seat. He said, “Talking to Jaden O’Neal’s camp, talking to some sources that spent time with him in Tallahassee this week — Florida State is the program definitely trending for Jaden O’Neal and his recruitment right now. And I still expect him to take his official visits to Oklahoma this weekend. So we’ll see what happens during a return visit to the Sooners’ campus. But Florida State has all the momentum with Jaden O’Neal right now.”

During his junior season, the 4-star QB threw for 3,040 yards, 28 touchdowns, and only four interceptions. He recently transferred from California to Mustang High School in Oklahoma for his senior year. It will be exciting to watch how his numbers improve this season.

He has already taken official visits to Arizona and Auburn, but Florida State might be the front-runner. The Seminoles were one of the first schools to offer him back in early 2024, and that long-standing relationship seems to be working in their favor. No official commitment date has been set yet, but all signs strongly point to a switch to the program in the near future.
