Fans Rush to Louisville Ball Boy’s Aid As Scuffle With Pitt Players Turns Violent

College football fans quickly took to the internet after a scuffle between Pitt players and a Louisville ball boy broke out during Saturday’s game.

College football is probably the only sport where you might see players get into a fight with an opposing team’s ball boy, and that’s precisely what happened during the Louisville-Pittsburgh ACC game on Saturday.

After a pick-six by Pitt, players got into a scuffle with the Louisville ball boy, and fans quickly came to his defense.

Fans Rally Behind Louisville Ball Boy After On-Field Scuffle

Pitt and Louisville’s game on Saturday was always expected to be chippy, as both schools are fighting for positioning in a crowded ACC early in the season. Few, however, expected a ball boy to get involved in the action.

Near the end of the first quarter, after Pitt intercepted a Louisville pass, the Cardinals’ ball boy tried to get the team’s ball back. The Pitt player, caught up in celebrating, wasn’t having it, and a scuffle broke out.

Fans were quick to defend the ball boy, with one noting that since it was an interception, the ball belonged to Louisville, and the ball boy was simply trying to retrieve his team’s property.

Others reiterated that, with one saying, “Louisville ball boy just doing his job.”

Even major companies got involved, with FanDuel weighing in with a similar statement on the incident.

While one fan even went as far as to call out the Pitt players for being dirty, writing, “Pitt players love to fight for footballs. Bunch of scum bags.”

It’s safe to say fans were not happy with the Pitt players for fighting with the ball boy. After the scuffle, one Pitt player went even further, throwing Louisville’s ball into the stands.

The whole incident was bizarre, especially considering it’s standard practice in college football for each team to have its own balls with its own logos. The Pitt players likely knew that, which makes the situation even more perplexing.

College Football Predictions Week 5: Who is Set to Shock In Stacked Slate?

No matter how caught up a player is in the heat of the moment, it’s never acceptable to fight a member of the opposing team’s staff, let alone a ball boy who was simply doing his job, as many fans pointed out.

It’ll be interesting to see if Pitt releases some sort of apology or response to the scuffle, as the vast majority of people are not pleased with the way the players treated Louisville’s ball boy.

Aside from the minor fight, the Panthers have looked strong in the game against Louisville and held a lead in the second quarter until the Cardinals tied with under four minutes to go before halftime.

Louisville will try to get revenge for their ball boy as the game continues with coverage on ESPN2.
