Ex-Virginia star QB Bryce Perkins might need to clear some extra shelf space because the awards just keep coming. First, he was named to the All-UFL Team, followed by recognition as the league’s top-performing offensive player.
Only two days passed between those two major honors. Now, there’s even more exciting news. After capping off a season that surprised everyone and gave him a fresh start, he has now been crowned the 2025 UFL MVP.
Bryce Perkins Defies Odds to Win 2025 UFL MVP Award
Perkins’ football story is all about heart and determination. After years of pushing through tough times, the former Cavaliers star has now been named the 2025 UFL Most Valuable Player. This moment came just after he picked up three Offensive Player of the Week awards along the way.
What makes it even more special is that Perkins missed three games due to injury. Still, the diverse panel chose him for the MVP honor. He only played seven out of ten games, but his performance in those games was powerful enough to earn him the league’s highest honor.
The announcement came dramatically during a live broadcast, when UFL co-owner Dany Garcia surprised Perkins with the news. His response was emotional. When the doctor said the chance of me playing again was slim… I decided to take that and run with it,” Perkins said. “I had a great family support system that kept me motivated. All glory to God.”

However, this MVP journey is actually deeply rooted in his college days at the Virginia Cavaliers, where many saw him as a game-changer. Anyone who followed him at the University of Virginia knew how special his journey was.

When he became the starting quarterback in 2018, he brought new energy to the program by helping the Cavaliers win the Belk Bowl against South Carolina. It was only the eighth bowl win in the school’s 125-year history.
In his senior year, Perkins led the Cavaliers to a huge victory over Virginia Tech. This win ended a 15-year losing streak against the Hokies. Later that season, he guided the Cavaliers to the Orange Bowl, their first New Year’s Six bowl appearance.
Statistically, he was one of the most productive quarterbacks in UVA history. He set the school’s single-season passing record in 2019 with 3,538 yards and broke his own mark for total offense with 4,307 yards that same year.
By the end of his college career, he had 7,910 total yards, the most in Cavaliers’ history. He tied for the second-most quarterback wins with 17 and ranked third in passing touchdowns with 47. Perkins also ran for 1,692 yards, more than any other quarterback in school history. He had 16 games with over 200 passing yards and five games with over 300 yards.
How do you measure that impact? That story is hard to rewrite, which is why he truly deserves to be the MVP.
