Following tonight’s inaugural College Football Playoff rankings, the Ohio State Buckeyes and Indiana Hoosiers top the nation. However, many have made a case for Mike Elko’s Texas A&M Aggies to earn the early No. 1 ranking.
According to PFSN’s Football Playoff Meter, the Aggies are the No. 4-ranked team in the nation. This puts them behind the likes of Ohio State, Indiana, and Alabama. However, they have a significantly higher chance of making the playoffs with a 95.8% probability.

Joey Galloway Slams Texas A&M’s College Football Playoff Ranking
The initial 12-team College Football Playoff rankings have been released, with Ohio State and Indiana stealing the headlines, ranking first and second overall in the country. However, cases have been made for Texas A&M’s ascension as the No.1 seed.
The ESPN desk reacts to A&M’s No. 3 ranking:
“That’s surprising to me because of the analytics, their record strength, and the schedule strength. A&M is ranked in both of those metrics above Ohio State and Indiana. I’m surprised they’re No. 3.” – @Joey_Galloway

“That’s surprising to me because of the analytics, their record strength, and the schedule strength. A&M is ranked in both of those metrics above Ohio State and Indiana. I’m surprised they’re No. 3,” ESPN’s Joey Galloway revealed.
According to PFSN’s Football Playoff Meter, the Aggies had a more difficult schedule than both Ohio State and Indiana. However, Kalen DeBoer’s Crimson Tide also had a more demanding schedule than Elko’s Texas A&M. Alabama currently sits at No.4 in the rankings at 7-1.
“We haven’t lost yet. That would probably be a good starting point. Yeah, I don’t know. It’s hard to compare yourself to other teams in the league. I’m just trying to figure out how to play good football on Saturday against Missouri.” Elko stated to the media recently.
As it stands, the Hoosiers have the best win of them all, beating the ninth-ranked Oregon Ducks. Texas A&M also has a win against the 10th-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, while Ohio State’s best victory came against the 11th-ranked Texas Longhorns at the start of the season.
Following this, many have called out Galloway for a false claim. According to most metrics, Curt Cignetti’s Indiana Hoosiers have the best claim to the No.1 seed with the highest-ranked win. In fact, ESPN’s own metrics have the Aggies all the way down at No.9.
“Joey Galloway insisting that Texas A&M is better than Ohio State and Indiana based on analytics is hilarious. ESPN’s own model has A&M at No. 9, while Ohio State and Indiana are No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.” One fan pointed out.
According to PFSN’s FPM, it is most likely that Ohio State will solidify its No.1 spot. The Buckeyes have a 43.06% chance of winning out. However, the Hoosiers do have a shot, with a higher 57.07% chance of winning out as Ryan Day’s team must take on Michigan.
