Dylan Raiola’s Nebraska is 7-4 this season after suffering an embarrassing 37-10 loss to Penn State last week. The Cornhuskers are preparing for Friday’s regular-season finale against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Raiola sustained a season-ending injury during Nebraska’s 21-17 loss to USC on Nov. 1 and has not returned to the field since. Meanwhile, speculation is now swirling about a possible move to the transfer portal.
CFB Insider Provides Update on Dylan Raiola’s Transfer Portal Decision
Chris Hummer of CBS Sports reported this week on Raiola’s potential move to the transfer portal. The speculation came after his younger brother, Dayton Raiola, decommitted from Nebraska’s 2026 recruiting class last week.
247Sports national recruiting insider Tom Loy discussed the situation with CBS Sports on Wednesday.
“Yeah, it seems like all signs are pointing toward Dylan Raiola entering the transfer portal after this season,” Loy said. “And you know, things really started when Dayton Raiola, the 2026 former committed to Nebraska, opened things up and started looking around. So our best guess at this point is that they eventually land at the same school, depending on how things play out with Dayton.
“And then, obviously, Dylan entering the portal. If things play out, I was talking to a source behind the scenes recently about the quarterback situation in Nebraska, and everything was centered around other people, not Dylan Raiola was about TJ Lateef. It was about 2027 quarterback Trae Taylor. So, so many moving parts here, but none of them really point toward Dylan Raiola returning next season.”
Dylan has completed 72.4% of his passes for 2,000 yards, 18 touchdowns, and six interceptions in nine games this season. Over his first two years at Nebraska, he has appeared in 22 games, recording 4,819 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions.
With Dylan as the starter, Nebraska has gone 13-9 and earned its first bowl win in several years. His Nebraska commitment is considered the biggest recruiting win of the Matt Rhule coaching era as Rhule lured him from Kirby Smart’s Georgia to the Cornhuskers’ 2024 recruiting class.
Rhule himself addressed the report about Dylan’s transfer portal speculation on Wednesday.
“I haven’t seen that report,” Rhule said. “Yeah, I haven’t seen that. I would never get up here and talk about a player. I love Dylan like I love all my guys. He’s in there in treatment right now. So I don’t know about that. I don’t know anything about that.”
Raiola is Nebraska’s highest-paid player, earning a salary of $3.5 million this season. He also explored transfer possibilities last year after his camp, but ultimately decided to stay with the Cornhuskers. However, this season the situation could change.
Meanwhile, Nebraska is 4-4 in the Big Ten and is ranked No. 52 in the PFSN College Football Playoff Ranking.
