Over the last few years, Deion Sanders has helped turn his children into one of the most talked-about families in the sports world. His sons, Shilo Sanders and Shedeur Sanders, have been under a microscope since their father took the head coaching job at Jackson State and brought them along.
While Shedeur’s journey has been a rollercoaster, Shilo’s path has been marked by on-field antics that recently cost him a shot at the NFL, bringing old family stories back into the spotlight.
What Happened to Shilo Sanders’ NFL Opportunity?
Both Shilo Sanders, a defensive back, and Shedeur Sanders, a quarterback, attended Jackson State when their father became the head coach.
The two players followed Deion Sanders when he moved to lead the Colorado Buffaloes, and both had productive careers, although Shedeur’s was notably more successful. This led to both entering the 2025 NFL Draft.
Shedeur was once considered a first-round pick but ultimately fell to the fifth round, where the Cleveland Browns selected him. Some analysts believe his draft stock tumbled due to concerns about his attitude, while others suggest he simply isn’t good enough, at least not yet.
Meanwhile, Shilo did not generate the same level of hype, and many doubted he would become an NFL player. After going undrafted, he secured a spot in training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, Sanders’ past issues with penalties and alleged violence resurfaced during the preseason.
In the Bucs’ final preseason game against the Buffalo Bills, Sanders was ejected for throwing a punch at Bills tight end Zach Davidson. The video of the incident quickly went viral. Following a poor performance the previous week against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the ejection, Tampa Bay released him, a decision Sanders seems to have quickly come to terms with.
If Sanders chooses to continue his football career, he will need to clean up his on-field behavior. He can always look to his father for guidance, as he has in the past.
How Has Deion Sanders Called Out His Son Shilo’s Behavior Before?
This isn’t the first time Deion has had to address his son’s behavior. An old video of the two has recently resurfaced, showing a classic father-son moment.

In the clip, Deion confronted his son about a report from school claiming he was showing up late to Spanish class and being disruptive, which included passing gas.
“You farting in class, man?” his father asked. “I had to do what I had to do,” Shilo responded. “How you just gonna sit up there and fart and try to be the baby?” the elder Sanders asked. “All attention is not good attention.”
Coach Prime then accused his son of trying to be the class clown, to which Shilo replied, “There was only one time.”
Looking back, this seems to be a hilarious exchange between a father and son, and it’s a scene that many parents probably find all too familiar. Although Shilo has had his issues, they likely do not stem from gas he passed in class years ago.
Regardless, Sanders continues to prepare for any NFL team to come calling.
