Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes stunned college football fans and Georgia Tech in Week 1, pulling off a dramatic 14-13 victory.
While the opposing players were forced to accept the surprising defeat on the field, Georgia Tech fans were clearly not prepared for the result. One frustrated fan directed his anger toward Coach Prime, but Sanders’ response showed that the criticism did little to bother him.
Deion Sanders Keeps His Composure After Fan’s Outburst
The Buffaloes racked up a disappointing 3-9 record in 2025. Following the departures of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to the NFL, the 2025 calendar year served as a reminder of just how quickly the fortunes of a college football program can change.
However, this season could prove to be a different chapter altogether, and Colorado’s season-opening performance provided an early indication of that possibility.
After the impressive victory, Coach Prime was walking off the field with his son, Shedeur, when a Georgia Tech fan loudly shouted, “[Expletive] you, Deion! [Expletive] you!”
Rather than responding with anger or getting involved in a confrontation, the Colorado HC remained calm and simply replied, “God bless you,” before continuing on his way.
Colorado entered the matchup as a 6.5-point underdog, but Sanders’ squad completely changed the expected storyline with a resilient performance against Georgia Tech.
Freshman quarterback Julian Lewis found Charlie Williams for a go-ahead touchdown with just under a minute remaining. The dramatic finish came when Boo Carter blocked Georgia Tech’s potential game-winning field-goal attempt as time expired.

In a single night, Colorado went from being largely overlooked to becoming one of the most eye-catching teams to watch this year.

After spending the entire offseason hearing criticism surrounding last season, Sanders has plenty to prove as he attempts to turn the program around.
However, following the upset victory, Sanders made it clear that outside criticism is not something he intends to dwell on.
“I want to win, man. I don’t give a [expletive]. They talked about me when I came out of the womb,” Sanders said. “This is a big win for these kids.
“We let you guys talk. We know you gotta sell papers, you gotta get clicks. Talk your talk. Just don’t get sensitive when I talk back.”
Colorado’s season opener offered a glimpse of the defensive toughness that was largely missing a year ago. If the Buffaloes can maintain that physicality and resilience, they could prove to be considerably more competitive against their Big 12 opponents than they were last season.
Colorado will now turn its attention to its home opener against the Weber State Wildcats on Sept. 12.
