Sitting at 3-6, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has made a decision that hasn’t gone over too well with Buffaloes fans. His team is desperate for a win, but he may have crossed the line.
Sanders has been met with harsh criticism this season, as Colorado is nowhere near the team they were a year ago. However, now he’s hurting his future chances of winning in a move that will cost someone their redshirt status.
Deion Sanders Plans To Start Julian Lewis For The Final Three Games
If Colorado were serious about having Lewis retain his redshirt status, he would not be seeing the field for three straight games. Lewis, who’s appeared in two games this season, would be at risk of losing his redshirt status if Sanders goes through with his plan to start him in the team’s final three games.
While it seems like a fine last-second move to become bowl eligible, it’s a move that is only going to harm Lewis in the long run.
“Yeah, I’m pretty sure he’s hitting the transfer portal asap,” this fan wrote. No one could blame Lewis for making that decision, as at this point, he’s going to be fighting to be eligible for a full four seasons.
That’s a stupid move

One fan called it a “stupid move” as Sanders clearly is still trying to navigate the college football lifestyle. He’s essentially burning Lewis moving forward in a move that will not benefit Colorado whatsoever in the final three games of the season. Sure, they want to do whatever they can to make a bowl game, but at what cost?
“Sanders is a dumb***,” this fan commented. Clearly, fans haven’t taken too kindly to his decision. So far this season, Lewis is 11/21 for 129 yards with a touchdown. The upside is clearly there, but that’s exactly why he was redshirted in the first place. Another comment came in, “Trying anything but winning.”
What a dumb thing to do. The fate of the season is already decided. Why not let the kid develop

“Not a bad idea to hurt his portal stock lmao,” one fan said. Now that his redshirt status is going to be burned, some teams may not like the idea of taking on a player with one less year of eligibility. Someone else wrote, “What a dumb thing to do. The fate of the season is already decided. Why not let the kid develop.”
Not everyone was against Sanders’ move, “Kids with talent don’t need the 4th season anyway. They need to play.” While the comments defending Sanders were few and far between, there were a few notable ones, “Need something.” Whether this is the spark Colorado needs remains to be seen, but it’s a huge decision to make nonetheless.
