Colorado Buffaloes HC Deion Sanders remains away from summer football preparations as he recovers from health issues. His absence during this important preseason period has raised questions about leadership continuity for the program he revitalized through aggressive recruiting and media attention.

Regardless, former NFL cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones recently visited  Prime at his home in Texas, giving fans their first glimpse of Sanders during his current absence from team activities. The two men went fishing together during the visit, and Sanders posted a video of their fishing trip on Instagram afterward.

In his post, Sanders wrote, “God is so Good, another 1 of my sons came to see me and make certain I’m straight. He also wanted to fish so I was his guide today. Thank u my brother u gave me energy.”

The visit shows the strong personal relationship between the two men and demonstrates Sanders’ lasting influence on players he has coached and mentored over the years.

Sanders’ health struggles stem from multiple medical challenges over the past several years, including complications from foot surgeries that required toe amputations in 2021. His physical condition became a storyline during his coaching tenure, with Sanders often seen using mobility aids on the sidelines.

In 2022, he had two toes on his left foot amputated because of blood clots that developed from a previous surgery, and in 2023, he underwent a procedure to relieve clots in both of his legs.

Colorado athletics officials have provided minimal updates since his absence began in early June. The university released a brief statement acknowledging his medical situation but declined to offer specifics about the nature of his health concerns or the projected timeline for his return.

In the meantime, assistant coaches have stepped up to handle daily operations while Sanders recovers at his estate in Canton, Texas.

The timing coincides with preseason preparations for the Buffaloes, who enter the upcoming season with heightened expectations following Sanders’ recruiting success and program transformation since his arrival in Boulder. Players and staff have maintained focus on preparation despite uncertainty surrounding their head coach’s return.

Jones’ visit and the social media post showed Sanders actively engaging in outdoor activities, suggesting positive progress in his condition despite the extended timeline away from football operations. The Colorado football season is scheduled to begin on August 29 when the Buffaloes host Georgia Tech at Folsom Field.
