Dan Lanning’s No. 7 Oregon Ducks kept up their winning streak with a 42-27 win over Lincoln Riley’s No. 15 USC Trojans at Autzen Stadium, Oregon, on Saturday. The Ducks are now on a five-game winning streak following their 30-20 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers on October 11.
The USC win improved Oregon’s record to 10-1 this season, and Lanning also sparked controversy with his comment on the Southeastern Conference following the game.

After Oregon’s win over USC, Lanning used his postgame press conference to point out that the Big Ten plays nine conference games, while teams in other leagues like the SEC often fill this part of the schedule with weaker opponents. The comment earned him an immediate jab from former LSU star Breiden Fehoko.
“Dan, you talk to much sh*t. How bout you take the LSU job for under 13 million bring Dante Moore and we’ll see if you’re as good as you say you are,” Fehoko tweeted.

Lanning built much of his coaching reputation in the SEC during his time with the Georgia Bulldogs, but he has since become a major figure in the Big Ten. His comment was aimed at strengthening Oregon’s case for the College Football Playoff by mentioning the difficulty of the Ducks’ schedule compared to SEC teams that often play softer non-conference opponents late in the year.
“We just played a really good team and we beat them. A lot of times, we play really good teams that become unranked all of a sudden, and that’s not our fault. Maybe it is our fault, but all we’re worried about is playing the teams we play and doing the job we need to do. We did that job today, and I think that the proof is in the pudding.
“All we can do next week is try and do the same thing. This conference is a really good conference. It’s competitive. We didn’t play Chattanooga State today, like some other places. We competed, so with that being said, it’s tough playing nine conference games. It’s tough playing in this league, and we’ve got to take advantage of playing a good team today and attacking that.”
Oregon will finish its regular season next week against Washington, which may further boost its standing in the 12-team College Football Playoff race. A loss might hurt the Ducks’ chances, but it may still not eliminate them.
Entering the USC game, Oregon was No. 7 in the CFP rankings, and the PFSN CFB Playoff Meter gave them an 86.19% chance to make the playoff field.
