Jon Sumrall is facing a challenging first year stepping into Billy Napier’s role at Florida. The Gators concluded the 2025 season with a 4-8 record and saw several players enter the transfer portal. However, one of Sumrall’s key priorities from the 2025 roster is to return to the program this week.

Florida received a big boost on Wednesday as wide receiver Dallas Wilson announced he would return to the Gators for the 2026 season. The 6-foot-3, 213-pound sophomore, who set three school records in his debut, marks another major retention for Sumrall.
“It’s a revenge season,” Wilson told Florida Victorious. “I’m coming back for everything. Everybody that doubted us or talked about us. We’re coming back. Just know that.”
Wilson redshirted as a true freshman and played only four games this past season due to a foot injury sustained during fall camp that ended his year. However, he made an immediate impact in his Florida debut against No. 9 Texas, catching six passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns in the Gators’ 29-21 win on Oct. 4.
That performance set program records for a true freshman in their first career start in yards, receptions, and touchdowns, earning him SEC Freshman of the Week honors. He finished the season with 12 receptions for 174 yards and three touchdowns.
Wilson’s decision to return is a significant boost for the PFSN College Football Offense Metric’s No. 63 team, Florida, especially after the program lost receivers like Aidan Mizell and Eugene Wilson III to the portal. Wilson is among the Gators’ core players, showing strong trust in Sumrall’s leadership.
“He was very electric,” Wilson said of Sumrall. “He brought a lot of energy to the room – something we really hadn’t seen before. It was a different type of juice, and I immediately liked it. I feel like he’s the kind of coach who’s going to bring the best out of every player on the field.”
Wilson praised new offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner as well, calling him a “great offensive mind.” He also lauded wide receivers coach Marcus Davis, who replaced Billy Gonzales, for his focus on developing the “best wide receiver room” moving forward.
Wilson originally signed with Oregon but was granted a release and enrolled at Florida. According to 247Sports Composite, he was the No. 8 wide receiver and No. 35 prospect overall in the Class of 2025.
Besides Wilson, several other Florida stars have publicly committed to returning, including quarterback Tramell Jones Jr., linebackers Aaron Chiles and Myles Graham, wide receivers TJ Abrams and Vernell Brown III, offensive lineman Roderick Kearney, edge rushers Kamran James and LJ McCray, defensive linemen Joseph Mbatchou and Jeramiah McCloud, and defensive backs Lagonza Hayward and Dijon Johnson.
