Clemson fell to another disastrous loss against Duke that could potentially have enormous implications for the future of Dabo Swinney. The Tigers went to overtime against the Blue Devils, where they suffered a defeat with 40 seconds left on the clock.
This has dropped the Tigers to 3-5 on the season with a 2-4 record in ACC play. According to PFSN’s playoff meter, they are projected to narrowly miss out on bowl contention. Swinney’s team is predicted to finish the season with five wins and six losses.

During Duke’s overtime drive against Clemson, the head coach and fans were outraged by a pass interference call that cost them the game. After it looked like the Tigers had stopped the Blue Devils on fourth down, it was called back for defensive pass interference.

Following this loss, Swinney went from winning the ACC championship last year to most likely missing out on even a bowl game. After being lauded as one of the frontrunners for the National Championship, they have become one of the biggest disasters of the year.

Swinney has been the head coach at Clemson since 2008. After serving as the wide receivers coach, the Tigers’ head coach assumed the role on an interim basis in 2008. He has served as head coach since 2009, entering his 17th year as a coach in Death Valley.
Swinney is being scrutinized more intensively because of the Tigers’ apparent stagnation, particularly on offense. The team has not beaten a single power conference opponent in over a year, and the playcalling has been widely questioned as they have dropped to 3-5 overall.
After winning two National titles in 2016 and 2018, as well as 8 ACC Titles in the last ten years, including last year, Swinney most likely has a long way to go until he joins the likes of Brian Kelly, James Franklin, and Billy Napier in unemployment despite a poor season in 2025.
