Week 12 of the 2025 college football season is shaping up as the most important yet, with nearly every game carrying significant implications for every team. However, many programs are battling injuries and could be without key players. Here’s a look at some college football stars dealing with injuries and their status for the weekend.
Week 12 College Football Injury Report
Blake Horvath, QB, Navy
In Navy’s Week 11 loss to Notre Dame, the Midshipmen were without star quarterback Blake Horvath, who was sidelined with an upper-body injury suffered against North Texas in Week 10. Losing Horvath was a massive blow, as he’s one of the most dynamic players in the country.
Ahead of Navy’s pivotal Week 12 matchup against American Conference rival USF, there’s been no significant update on Horvath’s status. However, since he was ruled a game-time decision against the Fighting Irish, there’s a good chance that he will play this week.
If Horvath does suit up against the Bulls, it would be huge for the Midshipmen. He currently ranks eighth among all college quarterbacks this season according to PFSN’s CFB QBi metric.
Chandler Morris, QB, Virginia
Chandler Morris exited Virginia’s Week 11 loss to Wake Forest after taking a big hit in the second quarter. To keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive, the Cavaliers will need their star quarterback ready for Week 12 against Duke.
Morris reportedly did not practice on Monday, but it is hoped that he will return to practice on Wednesday. According to Virginia reporter Mike Barber, Cavaliers head coach Tony Elliott said Morris must practice at some point this week to be eligible to play against Duke, leaving his Week 12 status uncertain.
If Morris can’t play, it would be a massive blow for Virginia, as he’s been a key factor in the team’s unexpected success in 2025, ranking 52nd among college quarterbacks in PFSN’s CFB QBi metric.
Jonah Coleman, RB, Washington
Washington running back Jonah Coleman suffered an ankle injury in the Huskies’ Week 11 loss to Wisconsin. Coleman is one of the top running backs in the country, and Washington may be without him again for their Week 12 game against Purdue.
According to Seattle Times reporter Andy Yamashita, Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch announced that Coleman is questionable for the Purdue game.
Coleman has been outstanding this season, ranking fifth among college running backs according to PFSN’s CFB RBi metric. With his status uncertain, Washington could be at risk of losing their second straight game.
Michael Taaffe, S, Texas
Texas was without star safety Michael Taaffe for their Week 9 game against Mississippi State and Week 10 matchup against Vanderbilt after he suffered a thumb injury that required surgery. With a Week 11 bye, Taaffe had extra time to recover, and it now looks like he will play in Texas’s Week 12 game against Georgia.
According to Inside Texas reporter Anwar Richardson, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian said that Taaffe practiced on Monday. Barring any setbacks, the standout safety is expected to suit up against Georgia.
Coming off a fantastic 2024 campaign, Taaffe hasn’t played at the same level in 2025, only ranking No. 46 among college safeties this season according to PFSN’s CFB SAFi metric. Still, the Longhorns’ defense is flat-out better with him on the field, and he will be crucial to Texas’s success against the Bulldogs.
Behren Morton, QB, Texas Tech
Texas Tech quarterback Behren Morton has been dealing with a lower leg injury throughout the season and was seen in a walking boot at Red Raiders practice on Monday, raising questions about his status for Week 12 against UCF.
Don Williams of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reported that head coach Joey McGuire said the team plans to limit Morton’s movement all week but hopes to ramp him up Friday ahead of the game, making it likely he will play against the Knights.
Morton has had an up-and-down season, ranking No. 74 among college quarterbacks according to PFSN’s CFB QBi metric. Still, with Will Hammond already out for the year, the Red Raiders desperately need Morton to stay healthy.
