Defensive tackle Peter Woods is heading to the NFL after a 7-6 season with Clemson in 2025. The 2026 NFL Draft is still two months away, but he is projected to be selected in the first round.
Peter Woods Shares His Honest Take on Travis Hunter Comparison
Woods said on Wednesday that he feels most at ease playing defensive tackle, particularly at the 3-technique, where he can impact both the pass rush and the run defense. He mentioned that one of his biggest strengths is his ability to handle multiple responsibilities on the field and contribute in a variety of ways.
However, when asked whether his versatility compares to former Colorado two-way sensation Travis Hunter, Woods was quick to draw a line.
“I don’t know if I’d take it that far as Travis Hunter,” Woods said. “He’d do it at a much higher rate than me. I mean, it’s just, you know, my commitment. If that’s what you want me to do, I’m willing to do it. You know what I’m saying? But I can’t line up at the one receiver. I’m not trying to do that.”
Woods had 30 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and 1 pass deflection in 12 games in 2025. He earned a 76.6 grade in the PFSN College Football Defensive Tackle Impact Metric and was named first-team All-ACC for his performance. He totaled 14.5 tackles for loss and five sacks over his three-year college career at Clemson.
As for his NFL career, Woods said he plans to lean on veteran players as he transitions to the next level.
“Yeah, just finding my vets and getting up under their wings and soaking up and learning as much information as possible,” Woods said. “It would be naïve for me to think I could come into a league I’ve never been in before and know it all and have all the answers. So, I’m just eager to learn and eager to get better and take my game to the next level.”
Woods also expressed confidence in his draft stock, saying he believes he’s worthy of a top-10 selection, and has met with more than half of NFL teams at the Combine, including the Ravens, and is eager to prove himself ahead of April’s draft.
According to The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec, Woods said he “loves the Ravens” and remains in regular contact with Nate Wiggins, whom he has known since their recruiting days at Clemson.
Woods also shared that he met with Ravens head coach Jesse Minter and defensive line coach Lou Esposito, describing the conversation as productive. With questions surrounding Baltimore’s defensive tackle depth, Woods could be an interesting option.
However, the debate may center on whether selecting him would be considered a reach, given other potential prospects available at the position.
