Former Ole Miss FB Demands NCAA To ‘Back Off’ After Trinidad Chambliss Appeal

Former Ole Miss star Charles Stackhouse blasted the NCAA's bias after the authority appealed quarterback Trinidad Chambliss's eligibility case.

Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss was the talk of college football last month as he battled against the NCAA in the courts to get an extra year of eligibility. A Mississippi court granted Chambliss a temporary injunction that allows him to play for the Rebels next season.

On Thursday, the NCAA struck back by appealing the quarterback’s temporary injunction that allowed him to embark on his sixth year in college football.

Ex-Ole Miss Star Blasts NCAA Bias in Trinidad Chambliss Case

After news broke that the NCAA had appealed Chambliss’s eligibility case, former Ole Miss star Charles Stackhouse blasted the authority’s bias against the Rebels in a post on X.

“No surprise that the @NCAA wants to appeal. They don’t like us and it shows. Biased. Never seen them fight a guy that wants 4 full years of play. This ain’t the Old Ole Miss. Tuck your tails and back off! #HottyToddy,” Stackhouse tweeted.

Since former Vanderbilt Commodores quarterback Diego Pavia challenged the NCAA’s rules in court in 2024, 61 eligibility lawsuits have been filed against the authority. Student-athletes have successfully been granted preliminary injunctions in 13 of those cases, while the NCAA has prevailed in 31 of those cases.

In its petition filed on Thursday, the NCAA argued that coach Pete Golding’s Ole Miss team would hold an unfair advantage over its competitors if Chambliss were allowed to play for them next season. In addition, the authority appealed for an expedited hearing.

“Under the trial court’s order, UM will enjoy the benefit of rostering a star quarterback who is no longer eligible to compete. Such an outcome is unfair to D1 schools that follow the rules and must compete against UM in the 2026-2027 DI football season or who may be displaced from postseason competition by UM,” the petition read.

“If courts can intervene in NCAA eligibility decisions to provide special treatment to favored athletes, then the NCAA’s ability to ensure fair athletic competition in which all participants play by the same rules will depend upon the whims of trial courts throughout the country.”

Chambliss became the Rebels’ QB1 after starter Austin Simmons got injured early in the season, and he distinguished himself not only as one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC but in college football.

He led the Rebels to the program’s best-ever regular-season record (11-1) and helped them clinch a berth in the College Football Playoff. Chambliss earned a PFSN College QB Impact score of 90.3 after tallying 3,937 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and three interceptions, while adding 527 rushing yards and eight scores last season.
