Carson Beck’s Honest Self-Assessment Could Spark Major Bounce-Back Year at Miami, Says Analyst

Carson Beck acknowledged his rough 2024 season at ACC Media Days, and one analyst believes that honesty could fuel a big year at Miami.

Heading into the 2024 season, many expected Carson Beck to be one of the nation’s top quarterbacks, leading Georgia to a national championship and becoming a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

However, his season was derailed by mental mistakes and on-field errors. As a result, Beck chose to bypass the NFL and enter the transfer portal, eventually committing to Miami. At ACC Media Days, Beck acknowledged his struggles last season, which one analyst believes could set the stage for a strong bounce-back in 2025.

Carson Beck Admits 2024 Struggles and Analyst Predicts Rebound Year at Miami

While expectations were sky high for Beck in 2024, he didn’t come close to meeting them. The former Georgia quarterback tied for the SEC lead with 12 interceptions during his final season with the Bulldogs, causing his draft stock to fall from potential first-round status to a late Day 3 projection. He also had 290 of 448 passing for 3,485 yards and 28 TDs in 2024.

Beck left Athens and transferred to Miami this offseason, looking to revive his career with the Hurricanes. At ACC Media Days, he was asked about his 2024 season and took full responsibility for his mistakes.

“Last year, there were just times where I just tried to press too much,” Beck said. “I tried to be Superman and save the day. That’s not what we need. I just need to be myself.”

Self-awareness is always a valuable trait for a quarterback, and college football analyst Joe DeLeone, host of “The Ruffino and Joe Show”, believes that Beck’s ability to recognize his shortcomings will help him bounce back at Miami in 2025.

“I love that he is aware enough to understand what led to his mistakes,” DeLeone said. He later added, “I think that it’s telling that we that we should expect that this year is going to be a lot better.”

DeLeone makes a strong point. Beck doesn’t just admit he turned the ball over too often last season. He seems to understand what caused those mistakes.

The young quarterback now realizes he can’t force plays and instead needs to focus on making smart decisions to keep the offense on track.

Miami head coach Mario Cristobal’s passing offense was one of the best in the country last season. While it may be difficult for Beck to replicate what Cam Ward accomplished for the Hurricanes in 2024, if he can limit turnovers and play smart football, he can certainly come close.
