Running back Cam Skattebo, who had a whale of a college football career for the Arizona State Sun Devils, has been working hard to get back into playing shape. Skattebo saw his rookie NFL season in 2025 come to a heartbreaking end.
Skattebo, who was drafted by the New York Giants, played about half of the team’s games this season. Apparently, though, Skattebo is healthy enough to play softball. And that’s exactly what he’s going to do.
Former Arizona State RB Cam Skattebo Will Play Softball
On Wednesday, the school announced that Skattebo, along with former Sun Devils baseball player and current Detroit Tigers star Spencer Torkelson, will hit the softball field at Tempe, Ariz., for a celebrity softball game. The school posted information on X on Wednesday about the ASU Alumni Celebrity Softball Game.
AND Last but not least, please welcome Cam Skattebo and Spencer Torkelson!!!

In two seasons with the Sun Devils, Skattebo rushed for 2,494 yards and scored 30 touchdowns. His senior season in 2024, though, was off the charts. Skattebo had 293 rushing attempts for 1,711 yards and scored 21 rushing touchdowns along with three receiving touchdowns.
Skattebo finished fifth in voting for the Heisman Trophy, which went to Colorado Buffaloes two-way superstar Travis Hunter. Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel, and Miami’s Cameron Ward finished ahead of Skattebo in the Heisman voting.
Skattebo broke his right ankle, had a fibula fracture, and a deltoid ligament rupture in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2025 NFL season. That derailed the rest of his rookie season and sent him to watch from the sidelines.
The Giants, though, did get a good look at what type of back Skattebo will be for the team for a long time to come. In eight games, Skattebo had 101 carries for 410 yards and five rushing touchdowns for the Giants. According to the PFSN NFL RB Impact metrics, measured throughout the regular season, Skattebo had an impact score of 52.4 and graded out to an F.
His ability to bust through the Giants’ offensive line when holes were available gave Giants fans a lot of hope. The tandem of Skattebo and quarterback Jaxson Dart appears to give the franchise a bright, bright future.
But Sun Devils fans won’t see Skattebo carry the ball in the ASU Celebrity Softball Game. He’s going to try and hit a home run or two, while probably having a good time being back connected to his college once again.
