Deion Sanders’s OC Brennan Marion Keeps It Real on ‘Unreleased Shoe List’ Snub

With the removal of the spring transfer portal window, Deion Sanders is going through spring camp without the concern of players exiting after a strong offseason. However, a rebound is essential after a rough 2025 season, with Coach Prime’s staff, including offensive coordinator Brennan Marion, taking charge of the effort to turn things around.

Why Brennan Marion Hasn’t Earned Deion Sanders’ Signature Shoe Perks Yet

Marion discussed his relationship with Deion Sanders this week on the “Scoop w/Dukes” podcast, where he was asked whether he had made it onto Coach Prime’s unreleased shoe list.

“No, not yet,” Marion said. “I ain’t scored no touchdowns yet, you know what I mean. Like I ain’t won no game scored no touchdowns yet. So I appreciate Coach (Prime) showing me love, but I gotta go out there and do my thing first.”

The shoe list tied to Sanders’ return to Nike and his signature “Diamond Turf” line has become a status symbol in college football. Those at Colorado who meet his performance and culture standards receive exclusive gear, making the list a sign of achievement under Coach Prime’s program.

Marion feels comfortable enough with the dynamic to joke about his standing while still showing respect for Sanders as the leader who sets the standards. Sanders has also taught as “Professor Prime” at the University of Colorado, as he has been involved in a public performance and leadership course since 2024, appearing as a guest lecturer multiple times.

Coach Prime has a strong presence and high standards, but he is not overly controlling in day-to-day operations, allowing his staff and players autonomy within clear expectations. That leadership approach is what stood out most to Marion.

“So anybody who’s in a leadership role here, he really does give them direction and a plan, but then gives them, you know, the trust to do their job and do it at a high level and set parameters and standards for their groups, you know, their side of the ball or what they’re responsible for,” Marion said on the “Dukesthescoop” podcast.

“That’s one thing that I’ve learned from Coach that I’ll take with me, you know, when the next opportunity arises to be a head coach. Just from seeing how he does it, he has a plan in his head, and he puts that plan to fruition, but then also lets people have their plan and what they need to be successful as well.”

Marion is known for his innovative “Go-Go Offense” and his high-energy coaching style. He joined Colorado in December 2025 and is expected to help improve an offense that struggled last season, finishing with a 74.4 rating in the PFSN College Football Offense Impact Score.
