‘Bama Fans Are About to Cry’– CFB World Reacts As Cam Coleman Makes Texas Decision

College football fans poke fun at Alabama, as former Auburn star Cam Colemen committed to Texas after visit to Tuscaloosa.

Wide receiver Cam Coleman experienced a mix of highs and lows during his time at Auburn before ultimately entering the transfer portal. His decision came shortly after the Tigers fired head coach Hugh Freeze on Nov. 2.

Coleman was regarded as one of the most coveted players and the top wide receiver available in the portal this cycle before committing to Steve Sarkisian’s Texas on Sunday. He has two years of eligibility remaining and is expected to be a promising NFL Draft prospect as early as next season.

Cam Coleman’s Texas Commitment Led Jabs At Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama

Besides Texas, Alabama, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech hosted Coleman for visits before the Alabama native made his choice. Kalen DeBoer’s Alabama was expected to hold a strong edge in his recruitment, as Coleman already had familiarity with his potential position coach.

Alabama recently hired former Auburn offensive coordinator Derrick Nix as its wide receivers coach, and several of Coleman’s former high school teammates are currently on DeBoer’s roster.

Even without Coleman, Alabama’s 2026 wide receiver group includes five players, led by returning standouts Ryan Williams and Lotzeir Brooks. Still, landing Coleman would have provided a significant upgrade to the Crimson Tide’s receiver room.

Following Coleman’s decision to transfer to Texas, fans quickly took shots at DeBoer’s program.

“Bama fans are about to cry,” one said.

“LMAO BAMA STUFFE IN A LOCKER,” a fan wrote.

“Thank you Alabama coaching staff,” one wrote.

“Death, taxes, Texas lockering Bama in everything,” a netizen said.

“bama fans lmao,” a fan said.

Coleman led Auburn this season with 708 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 56 catches. His best performance came Nov. 8 against Vanderbilt, when he recorded 10 receptions for a career-high 143 yards in a 45-38 overtime loss.

As a true freshman in 2024, Coleman recorded 37 catches for 598 yards and eight touchdowns. He totaled 93 receptions for 1,306 yards and 13 scores over 23 career games with the Tigers.

Coleman entered college as one of the nation’s most highly regarded recruits in the 2024 class, ranking as the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 3 overall prospect nationally in the 247Sports Composite. He recorded 61 catches for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns in his senior year of high school.

Coleman holds a 75.2 score in the PFSN College Football WR Impact Metric. His arrival is a major win for Texas, which has been searching for a proven starting wideout after DeAndre Moore Jr. and Parker Livingstone exited via the transfer portal earlier this month.

Besides Coleman, the Longhorns also secured a commitment from NC State transfer running back Hollywood Smothers on Sunday.
