Cam Coleman Reveals Arch Manning’s Massive Role in Texas Portal Move

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Cam Coleman was the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 1 overall prospect in the transfer portal when he decided to leave the Auburn Tigers in January after two seasons on the Plains. Despite being one of the most widely sought-after offensive prospects in the portal, Coleman quickly committed to the Longhorns.

Ahead of a pivotal season for head coach Steve Sarkisian, Coleman will link up with heavy preseason Heisman Trophy favorite, quarterback Arch Manning, to improve the Longhorns’ anemic offense.

Cam Coleman Reveals Special Arch Manning Connection

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Coleman revealed the role that Manning played in his move to Austin and how the duo has been building a relationship during spring practice.

“That’s who is ultimately going to be getting me the ball. So really, we have been building that relationship. It’s been good,” Coleman said. “We’re building chemistry every day. Throwing every day. Really just watching film. He even tells me where he wants me to be on routes. So really, just building chemistry every day.”

Coleman and Manning have developed their chemistry on the field despite the quarterback being limited in training during spring practice. Manning is recovering from an offseason foot surgery to address a lingering injury sustained last season.

Despite the chaos that enveloped Auburn last year, which culminated in head coach Hugh Freeze being fired midway through the season, Coleman earned a PFSN College Wide Receiver Impact score of 75.2. He tallied 708 receiving yards on 56 receptions and five touchdowns.

With Manning under center last season, the Longhorns’ offense occasionally struggled, earning a PFSN College Offense Impact score of 79.9, good for only No. 11 in the highly competitive SEC. After missing out on the College Football Playoff, Sarkisian acted decisively in the transfer portal to retool his offensive weaponry ahead of the 2026 season.

During his interview, Coleman further revealed why he was attracted to Sarkisian’s project at Texas when he left Auburn, despite more lucrative offers from other programs.

“Just a lot of prayer, a lot of thought,” Coleman said. “A lot of talk with my family. Really, just finding the best opportunity for me… What [Texas] has been doing in the past, what they’ve got rolling, going on here. Really, it was just a good fit for me.”

The former Tigers wide receiver will join a talented Longhorns wide receivers room that includes Ryan Wingo, who led the team in receiving last year, alongside Daylan McCutcheon, Emmett Mosley and Kaliq Lockett.
