The Auburn Tigers have not had success on the college football field in recent years. Under head coach Hugh Freeze, the Tigers have an 11-14 record over the past two seasons.
However, things could be changing for Auburn as this offseason, Freeze added a lot of talent through the transfer portal, including Georgia Tech transfer Eric Singleton Jr., who one analyst believes will be a game-changer for the Tigers’ offense in 2025.
JD PicKell Believes Eric Singleton Jr. Could Be the Key to Auburn’s Offensive Struggles
After a terrific year with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Eric Singleton Jr. entered the transfer portal at the end of the 2024 season.
247Sports ranked Singleton as the No. 1 wide receiver and No. 5 overall player in the portal. Many teams pursued the young receiver, but he ultimately signed with the Auburn Tigers.
It was a big time singing for Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze, who desperately needed a spark plug on the Tigers’ offense after their struggles in 2024.
Many analysts believe that Singleton will significantly impact Auburn in 2025, including On3’s JD PicKell.
On his podcast “The Hard Count,” PicKell explained that while Auburn’s offense was statistically bad last season, the real struggle for the Tigers was finding a player who could win one-on-one matchups in the red zone.
“Auburn got into the high redzone and had trouble finding guys that would just go make the play for them or would be able to go win the specific matchup for them when the area of the field got a little more condensed.”
While PicKell acknowledged that former five-star Cam Coleman has all the talent to be that guy for Auburn, Singleton’s skill set makes him a nightmare to guard in the red zone.
“You can essentially pick and choose your matchup with Eric Singleton. And if your quarterback finds him in the right spot, you’re going to have a chance to then exploit that matchup and get in the end zone,” Pickell said. “To put it simply, I think he could be that fix in the red zone that Auburn has been yearning for.”
Singleton, as PicKell says, is a Swiss army knife. He had 56 catches and 754 yards in the receiving game for Georgia Tech last season, but he also added 131 yards on the ground.
He’s an athletic freak with elite speed and footwork who can make things happen after the catch, which will raise the ceiling for the Tigers’ offense next season.
Singleton and Coleman could make one of the most dangerous wide receiver duos in the country. If transfer quarterback Jackson Arnold can find ways to get them the ball, there’s no telling how good Auburn will be in 2025.
