USF Statement Prepares Bulls Fans for Alex Golesh’s Departure

The USF front office issued a vague statement amid head coach Alex Golesh's rumored move to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Alex Golesh has led the USF Bulls to an 8-3 record in the 2025 season. The Bulls are fresh off a dominant 48-18 win over UAB last weekend, which came after a narrow 41-38 loss to Navy on November 15.

Meanwhile, a crazy coaching rumor started circulating on Wednesday that the Arkansas Razorbacks are the favorites to hire Golesh as their next head coach.

USF Issues Vague Statement Amid Alex Golesh’s Potential Arkansas Move

USF hired Golesh in December 2022 on a six-year, $15.3 million contract. With speculation growing that he could leave for Arkansas, USF Athletics CEO Rob Higgins released a statement on Wednesday to calm the fanbase.

“Since Saturday’s game, Coach Golesh has been presented with outside opportunities that he has been transparent about with us,” the statement read. “We are respectful and supportive of Coach and his family in their decision making process. We’ll remain in constant communication.

“Bulls Nation, rest assured, we are ultra prepared for every scenario that could unfold in the coming hours/days. Our commitment and investment has never been higher, and we’re also laser focused on being great stewards of our resources. Most importantly, the future of USF Football has never been more bright! Go Bulls!🤘🏻😤”

This season, Golesh guided USF back into the AP Top 25 for the first time in seven years, and the Bulls currently sit at No. 47 in the PFSN College Football Playoff Rankings. Before their loss to Navy, the Bulls had the potential to be the Group of Five representative in the College Football Playoff.

The Bulls will now wrap up their regular season against Rice, which is 5-6 this season and is coming off a 56-24 loss against North Texas last week. A potential win against Rice would give the Bulls their ninth win, which would be the best finish of Golesh’s tenure.

Meanwhile, no firm link has been confirmed between Golesh and the Arkansas vacancy. He said Wednesday that he hasn’t signed anything and won’t make a final decision until the weekend.

However, Higgins’ message did not indicate that Golesh is leaving, but it also didn’t firmly signal that he’s staying. With Lane Kiffin’s situation still unsettled and 10-1 North Texas losing its coach, Eric Morris, to 1-10 Oklahoma State on Tuesday, USF fans may also be bracing for the possibility that Golesh could depart as well.

Meanwhile, Arkansas continues its coaching search after firing Sam Pittman in September following a 2–3 start. Pittman’s firing urged athletic director Hunter Yurachek to launch an immediate search for a new direction.
