$50 Million College Football Coach Lands on Hot Seat After 2025 Season Disappoints

With college football coaches' salaries escalating, expectations for seemingly immediate success especially in competitive conferences.

South Carolina finished 4-8 last season. The offense disappointed, ranking No. 53 in the PFSN CFB Offense Impact Rankings and averaging 22.7 points per game. Beamer stated before the year began that he felt last year’s team was going to make a run at the College Football Playoff.

What ensued was a season marked by struggles and promise, but ultimately failed to live up to the potential a team filled with top talent could deliver. Instead, the Gamecocks played well for stretches but could never compete in a game from beginning to end.

Whether it was a schematic breakdown, bad luck, or the opponent, the team found itself on the losing end twice as often as it won. Under those circumstances, the team could not win games. With spring practices roughly two months away, where does Beaner sit? To answer this question, the hosts of “That SEC Podcast” discussed the situation and what they believe could happen.

He said, “He’s got a win this year, but I don’t think he’s got to, like, make the playoff or anything. I It’s this: this is a tough job, but you go four wins, five wins, and your ass is probably gone next year. Given what you are returning, Beamer’s on one of the hotter seats in the SEC.”

“He’s got to start winning, and he’s got to be a little bit more consistent, and he’s got some top-end talent, and it didn’t show last year, but it’s got to this year. So, finish games,” the hosts emphasized, highlighting the sense of urgency around the program.

South Carolina’s 2026 schedule looks tough, with away games at Alabama, Florida, and Oklahoma. Matchups with Clemson, Tennessee, and Georgia add to the challenge. The offense does return key players.

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers chose to stay, and Nyck Harbor remains a dynamic outside threat. However, there is heavy turnover at running back and on the offensive line: four running backs graduated, and nine offensive linemen transferred.

Coordinator Clayton must combine returnees and transfers to offset the loss of 12 players. New talent could boost a defense that squandered three second-half leads.

A five-game losing streak derailed South Carolina’s season, coinciding with five straight games against ranked SEC teams from LSU to Texas A&M, who subsequently advanced to the CFP. For Beamer, this year gives him a chance at redemption.
