How Did Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb Counter Packers’ Micah Parsons as All-Pro WR’s Future Sparks Debate?

Cowboys’ All-Pro wide receiver, George Pickens, finds himself in the middle of organizational uncertainty. The Cowboys face mounting pressure to reshape a roster that hasn’t lived up to expectations. Now, Dallas is facing a tough question about Pickens’ future with America’s Team.

Before Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the front office make a firm decision on Pickens, the former Pittsburgh Steelers pass catcher is already attracting strong interest from around the league, including the Packers.

At the same time, Parsons, their defensive star, has been tied to conversations surrounding Pickens’ situation. That led Lamb to send a clear message to Parsons, Green Bay, and Dallas about his view of the wide receiver’s place in the Cowboys’ plans.

Lamb appeared on Kay Adams’ “Up and Adams” podcast recently. When asked about Pickens, he said, “Everybody in my face is trying to recruit him while I’m standing right next to him as if I’m not at the Pro Bowl.”

And when Adams made a request, “Tell me, I want to know one.” He said, “No. 1- Micah.” And added, “He’s a little too active to be on a scooter. That’s [the Packers] the only team that I’ll stay with right now but it’s a lot of couple people that I feel like it’s definitely trying to get my man away from me.” This happened during the Pro Bowl Games on Feb. 3, in California.

The Cowboys were well represented at the Pro Bowl, highlighted by wideouts Lamb and Pickens. But the spotlight now shifts from accolades to contracts.

Pickens is entering free agency, and while Dallas prefers to keep him, the financial path is complicated. A franchise tag would cost about $28.1 million for one season, all charged directly to the cap. A long-term extension could lower the immediate hit, yet market dynamics create tension.

Lamb signed a four-year, $136 million deal in 2024, averaging $34 million annually. After Pickens’ big 2025 season, his camp could push for a higher yearly figure, potentially surpassing Lamb.

That scenario might create locker-room friction on some teams, but Lamb has publicly dismissed any concern, saying he only wants Pickens paid what he deserves, signaling support rather than rivalry as Dallas weighs its decision.

But Lamb’s message to the organization is simple: “I don’t care about that, I just want my man to get what he deserves,” Lamb said. “As for me, I know I’m good. I’m fine. Me and my family, we’re straight, and I just want to compete at the highest level, and I want to compete for a ring.

“The money will come if you play good, so just play good and let everything else take care of itself,” Lamb added. “As for GP, he’s well deserving. He deserves every penny that he gets. And if he gets more than me, I’m going to congratulate him on that.”

Pickens exploded onto the 2025 NFL scene with career-best numbers that put him among the league’s elite receivers. In 17 regular-season games, he hauled in 93 receptions for 1,429 receiving yards. Per PFSN’s WR Impact data, he was ranked third in the NFL in yards and caught 9 touchdowns, which was the eighth most in the league. His 15.4 yards per catch average also ranked among the top receivers in the sport.

Throughout his regular-season career, Pickens has played 65 NFL games from 2022 through 2025, recording 267 career receptions for 4,270 receiving yards and 21 receiving touchdowns. His annual progression shows steady growth before a breakout in 2025, which can be substantiated by his 52 catches for 801 yards and 4 TDs in 2022, 63 catches for 1,140 yards and 5 TDs in 2023, 59 catches for 900 yards and 3 TDs in 2024, and then a career year in 2025.

It seems unlikely that the Cowboys would let him go to another team, but there are no guarantees in the NFL. But the wait continues, as the Cowboys have a real opportunity to keep one of the very best wide receiver duos, Pickens and Lamb, together in the NFL for the long term.
