Former Ohio State star Carnell Tate is arguably the best receiver in this year’s draft class. He could potentially end up with the Washington Commanders as quarterback Jayden Daniels has already reached out to him.
How Carnell Tate Fits In With Washington
The idea stems from an interview Tate did with Kay Adams on the “Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams.”
“He [Daniels] reached out over social media to me,” Tate said. “We had a little text going back and forth. He just said ‘Hopefully that works out, you end up here,’ He’s just wishing me well.”
Tate would be an excellent draft choice for the Commanders. For starters, he is just a very good receiver and prospect. According to PFSN’s CFB Wide Receiver Impact Metric, Tate had an impact score of 84.5, ranking him 8th.
Not only does Tate have excellent hands, but he is also a fantastic route runner. Tate is also an explosive receiver, as he had 4 100-yard games last year.
Tate and Daniels could become a great duo for the Commanders for years to come. Daniels’ deep ball would pair perfectly with Tate’s great hands. Daniels is 25, and Tate is 21, so the two could play together for a long-time together.
On the topic of age, Washington’s current number one wideout, Terry McLaurin, is 30. Now, McLaurin is still a very good wideout; last season, he earned a B- and ranked 15th according to PFSN’s WRi.
However, receivers and players in general start to regress as they get into their 30s. So, by the Commanders drafting Tate, they can have someone waiting in the wings and learning under McLaurin.
Even if McLaurin plays great into his 30s, Tate and McLaurin could turn into one of the better duos in the NFL. In an NFC East that has great receiving duos, such as the Philadelphia Eagles with DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown, or the Dallas Cowboys with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.

So Tate would be a great fit with the Commanders, and the connection with Daniels makes it probable that Washington lands him. Running 5 simulations with PFSN’s Mock Draft Simulator, Tate was available at the Commanders’ selection, which is pick 7.
Tate could possibly get drafted before the Commanders’ pick as the Cleveland Browns with the sixth overall pick also need a wideout.
However, sometimes players fall in the draft, so if Tate does fall, then the Commanders could take him.
Overall, the Commanders’ drafting Tate would be a huge win for their organization and would help them keep competitive in the NFC.
