The Pittsburgh Steelers entered Sunday’s game at home against the Green Bay Packers with a need to bounce back after a narrow loss against AFC North divisional rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals.
However, Green Bay got the better of the matchup with a 35-25 victory on the road, winning their first game at Pittsburgh since 1970. The Steelers held the advantage with a 19-14 lead through the third quarter, but the Jordan Love-led Packers offense answered with 21 points in the final quarter to stage a comeback win.
What Are the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Postseason Chances?
With back-to-back defeats, the Steelers dropped to 4-3 on the season and 2-2 at home in Acrisure Stadium. Despite this, Pittsburgh has held the top spot in the AFC North and currently sits fourth in the conference, courtesy of being the divisional leader.
According to PFSN’s Football Playoff Meter (FPM), after Sunday’s Week 8 matchup loss against the Packers, Pittsburgh still has a 67.6% chance of making the playoffs, ranked 13th in the league. They also carry a 62.8% chance of winning the AFC North.
>Pittsburgh’s best route to January football comes from topping the division and grabbing the AFC’s No. 4 seed (43.5%), while its chances of climbing to the No. 3 seed sit at 11.5%. Additionally, the Steelers have a 6.6% chance of making the Super Bowl this season.
There is optimism even after a tough 33-31 loss to the divisional rival Bengals, where Joe Flacco outdueled Aaron Rodgers in a battle of veteran quarterbacks. That shows the division is underwhelming this year, which gives Pittsburgh a couple of chances to stumble. However, dropping key games at home, like they did against the Packers, could prove costly down the stretch.
Rodgers entered Week 8 ranked third in the NFL in average time to throw (2.63 seconds) and had gone two games without being sacked. That streak ended quickly with Rashan Gary bringing him down three times as Green Bay’s pass rush took control.
When the game is on the line think player not play. Trailing 16-7 in the 3rd Quarter THIS IS THE PLAY that sparked everything that happened in the 2nd half.

Meanwhile, Mike Tomlin’s supposedly revamped defense continues to disappoint. After a disciplined first half, the unit fell apart after halftime as Packers QB Love completed his first 20 passes of the second half and led three consecutive touchdown drives. It was the second time in seven games that the Steelers’ defensive unit allowed 30-plus points,
While Rodgers has held up fine at 41, the Steelers’ bigger worries are the underperforming defense and an inconsistent offense. If they can steady both sides of the ball and keep their grip on the AFC North lead despite a surging Cincinnati outfit under Flacco, Pittsburgh remains well-positioned to secure a postseason berth for the sixth time since 2017.
